Oliver Anthony shares Bible verse in first public performance since viral fame.
Virginia farmer Oliver Anthony: From Farm to Fame
Last week, a song titled “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Virginia farmer Oliver Anthony took the music world by storm, skyrocketing to the top of the iTunes charts with over 9 million plays in just five days. The frustrations of the working class resonated with listeners, propelling Anthony to overnight sensation status.
Opening with a Biblical Message
In his first public concert since going viral, Anthony captivated a massive crowd. He began the performance by reading a powerful passage from the Book of Psalms:
“The wicked plot against the righteous,” he read. “And gnash their teeth at them but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming. The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow, to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. But their sword shall pierce their own hearts, and their bows shall be broken.”
“Better the little that have righteousness than the wealth of many wicked. For the power of the wicked will be broken but the Lord upholds the righteous. The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care and their inheritance will endure forever.”
A Voice for the Working Class
Anthony, reflecting on his meteoric rise to fame, humbly shared his journey with the crowd. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he has received, stating, “It’s crazy to me, because I remember back in June I played for about 20 people. But that’s the beautiful part of this country, though, even an idiot like me can make something happen. If I can do it, you can do it.”
Authenticity Strikes a Chord
Anthony’s message has struck a chord with audiences who crave authenticity in today’s music landscape. His lyrics speak to the struggles of the working class, addressing issues such as taxes, the welfare system, and rising suicide rates. Some even interpret references to Jeffrey Epstein’s heinous crimes.
A Political Stance
In a separate video, Anthony revealed his political views, describing himself as ”pretty dead center” and asserting that both Democrats and Republicans “serve the same master.” He aims to be a voice for those who are tired of the status quo, stating, “People are just sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
