Ogles says Trump should be eligible for third term as president

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) called President Donald Trump a “true leader” and said he should be eligible for a third term as president.
Ogles is an ardent supporter of Trump, having nominated him for a Nobel Peace Prize. The congressman previously introduced a resolution that would allow Trump to run for a third term.
“I think he should be eligible for a third term,” Ogles told Newsmax. “He’s truly the leader in a historic time in our nation and, quite frankly, in our world.”
When asked how he would assist Trump in running for a third term, Ogles touted his bill, allowing any president who has served nonconsecutive terms to run for a third stint in office. Trump would be eligible under that formula, but not former President Barack Obama or George Bush.
In the interview, Ogles praised Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and endorsed the action for other cities, including Nashville, Memphis, Tennessee, and Chicago. He said Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell, a Democrat, has contributed to crime in the city.
“Comrade O’Connell is using the city as an outpost for international gangs to set up shop in our neighborhoods,” Ogles said on social media. “Punish criminals and the Mayors who work for them.”
He said Trump is willing to “think outside of the box” to solve crime.

Ogles is a member of the House Freedom Caucus and one of the most conservative members of the House.
He won reelection to a third term in the House in 2024, winning Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District by double digits.
