Adrienne Vaughan, a vibrant and accomplished 45-year-old publishing executive, met an untimely demise in a devastating boating accident, as confirmed by her company, Bloomsbury Publishing Inc., based in New York.
The unfortunate incident occurred during a family vacation to the picturesque Amalfi Coast, a renowned tourist destination. The motorboat they had rented collided with a sailboat, resulting in a catastrophic turn of events.
Reports from Italian media indicate that the motorboat, under the guidance of a skipper, crashed into the sailboat, which was carrying numerous American and German tourists, including a group celebrating a wedding.
The impact of the collision threw Adrienne Vaughan into the water, where she was tragically struck multiple times by the motorboat’s propeller. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries before a helicopter ambulance could arrive.
The Italian Coast Guard office in Amalfi is currently investigating the incident, although further details are yet to be released.
Adrienne’s husband was also injured and is currently hospitalized with a shoulder injury. Thankfully, their two young children escaped unharmed.
Fortunately, no one aboard the sailboat, which was carrying over 80 American and German tourists and crew members, sustained any injuries.
According to Italian news agency ANSA, a blood test conducted on the motorboat’s skipper revealed the presence of substances. However, it remains unclear whether the test indicated alcohol or drug consumption. The skipper, an Italian in his thirties, suffered a broken pelvis and ribs as a result of the accident.
The investigation is being overseen by prosecutors in the southern port city of Salerno, although they were unavailable for comment at the time.
The ill-fated motorboat was en route to Positano, one of the most sought-after destinations along the stunning Amalfi Coast.
