EXCLUSIVE — The National Republican Congressional Committee is launching an attack ad on Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), a vulnerable Democrat whom President Donald Trump pardoned last year.
Cuellar filed for reelection as a Democrat just hours after Trump pardoned him, enraging the president, who slammed the Democrat for having a “lack of loyalty.” Republicans have long been eyeing Cuellar’s seat in southern Texas and have tied him to Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who is in a challenging race to be the Democratic nominee for Senate in the state.
“Democrat Henry Cuellar has been a part of the D.C. swamp for 20 years, and what do we have to show for it?” the ad states. “Voted against funding for our community, impeached President Trump, and endorsed [2024 Democratic nominee for president Kamala Harris]. Cuellar votes with crazy extremist Jasmine Crockett over 80% of the time.”
The ad will run in both Spanish and English, as Cuellar sits in a massive border district in the Lone Star State. While the race is expected to be competitive, Cuellar has a slight advantage as the incumbent, with the Cook Political Report rating the race as “lean Democrat.”
Cuellar, who does not have a tough primary opponent, will most likely face Trump-endorsed Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina.
“Henry Cuellar has collected millions of taxpayer dollars over his 20 years in office and has nothing to show for it,” NRCC spokesman Reilly Richardson said in a statement. “South Texans deserve a Representative who works for them, not himself.”
Cuellar was pardoned by Trump of corruption charges pursued by the Biden administration. Trump cited the Biden administration weaponizing “the Justice System against their Political Opponents,” as the reason for his pardon, going on to say that the Texas Democrat was just “speaking the TRUTH” against open borders.

Such a lack of LOYALTY, something that Texas Voters, and Henry’s daughters, will not like,” Trump said. “Oh’ well, next time, no more Mr. Nice guy!”
