Texas Supreme Court rejects ‘Texit’ movement
The Texas Supreme Court Rejects Petition for Texit Referendum
The Texas Supreme Court has dealt a blow to the Texas Nationalist Movement’s efforts to secede from the United States. The movement, known as Texit, had filed an emergency petition to include a secession referendum on the state’s March primary ballot, but it was rejected by the Texas GOP. Undeterred, the movement has now filed a temporary restraining order to halt the printing of ballots in Travis County.
A Battle Against the Texas Republican Establishment
“Well, we did everything we could, but the Supreme Court of Texas screwed us,” expressed Texit lawyer Paul Davis in response to the ruling. “This is what the Texas Republican establishment thinks of Texians. You don’t have the right to petition your government. The establishment won today, but we are not going away.”
The Texas Nationalist Movement is determined to challenge the actions of the Texas GOP and Matt Rinaldi, and they believe that the courts will ultimately rule in their favor. A hearing on the temporary restraining order is scheduled for January 16.
Texit: A Movement Gaining Momentum
Texit gained momentum last year when the group launched a campaign to secure a referendum on the 2024 primary ballot. According to the Daily Mail, the movement successfully gathered 139,456 signatures, surpassing the required 97,709 signatures outlined in the Texas Election Code.
While the Texas Supreme Court’s rejection is a setback for Texit, the movement remains determined to achieve its goal of Texas independence. The battle against the Texas Republican establishment is far from over, and the courts will play a crucial role in determining the fate of the TEXIT question on the ballot this March.
