Noem taps 14-year ICE attorney to serve as agency’s new deputy director

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that Charles Wall will serve immediately as deputy director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Wall, an ICE attorney as 2012, most recently served for a year as the agency’s Principal Legal Advisor and has a background as a prosecutor and senior assistant district attorney in Orleans Parish (2009-2012).

He replaces Madison Sheahan, who resigned this week to run for Congress after a short tenure at ICE following previous roles as Noem’s political director and a Louisiana state official. Wall will report to Todd Lyons, who has been acting head of ICE since March.

Noem praised Wall as a forward-leaning, strategic thinker who has helped prioritize the arrest and removal of dangerous criminal noncitizens. The appointment comes amid heightened attention on ICE operations nationally, including unrest in Minneapolis after an ICE-related shooting and related political debate.

Noem taps 14-year ICE attorney to serve as agency’s new deputy director

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Thursday that Charles Wall will take over as the deputy director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

ICE’s previous deputy director, Madison Sheahan, left the agency on Thursday to run for Congress.

“Effective immediately, Charles Wall will serve as the Deputy Director of @ICEGov,” Noem wrote on X.

“For the last year, Mr. Wall served as ICE’s Principal Legal Advisor, playing a key role in helping us deliver historic results in arresting and removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from American neighborhoods,” Noem added. “Mr. Wall has served as an ICE attorney for 14 years and is a forward-leaning, strategic thinker who understands the importance of prioritizing the removal of murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists from our country.”

Wall has considerably more experience with ICE than 28-year-old Sheahan, who joined the agency after a stint as Noem’s political director and as the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ secretary.

The new deputy director has worked for ICE since 2012, with his duties mostly in the legal realm. Before that, he served as a prosecutor and Senior Assistant District Attorney at the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office from 2009 to 2012.

Sheahan was appointed in March of this year and left on Wednesday to run for Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur’s (D-OH) seat.

“Thank you, President @realDonaldTrump and @Sec_Noem, for your leadership and steadfast commitment to Defend the Homeland. As I depart @ICEgov today, I am proud of the work we have done to protect American families and I am grateful for the brave men and women serving at ICE,” she wrote on X Thursday.

Todd Lyons has served as the agency’s acting head since March. Wall will serve directly under Lyons as the agency comes to grips with its wide presence across the country, including in Minneapolis.

SCHUMER PRESSES TRUMP OVER ICE RAIDS AT WHITE HOUSE MEETING

An ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis after she struck him with her SUV. The incident has stirred considerable unrest in the city.

President Donald Trump said Thursday he might “institute the INSURRECTION ACT … and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State,” if the unrest doesn’t cool.
