Noem accused of exploiting border crisis for VP ambitions

The Oglala Sioux⁤ Tribe Banishes ‌Governor Kristi Noem from Reservation

The Oglala Sioux tribe has taken a bold stance against Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) ‍by banishing her from ‍their reservation.‍ This decision comes in response to Noem’s controversial⁢ comments on the border crisis, with the tribe accusing⁤ her of using the ⁢issue to further her own political ambitions.

In a letter addressed to the governor, the ‍tribe’s president, Frank Star Comes Out, emphasized that ⁣the Oglala Sioux are not ‍aligned with any political party. However, he felt compelled to defend the rights of ”Indian people from such places as El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico” who are seeking a better life.

“The truth of the matter is that Governor Noem wants to exploit the so-called ‘invasion’ of the southern border as ‌a Republican ‘crisis’ issue. She hopes to leverage this for her own gain, using it as a campaign tactic to secure former President Donald Trump’s support for her re-election and potentially ‍secure‌ a spot as his running mate,”

Star Comes Out concluded the letter by reminding Noem that the Oglala Sioux ‍tribe does not belong ⁤to the state of⁢ South Dakota and banished her from the reservation for the safety of the Oyate, meaning the people or nation.

Noem responded ‌to the banishment by stating, “It is unfortunate that President‍ Star Comes Out chose to bring politics into a discussion regarding the effects of our federal government’s failure to enforce federal laws at the southern border and on tribal lands. My focus continues to be on working together⁢ to solve those problems.”

The Pine Ridge Reservation, home to⁤ the Oglala Sioux, spans over 2.1⁤ million acres, encompassing Oglala Lakota County, Jackson County, and ‍Bennett County.

As ⁣speculation grows about potential running‍ mates for Trump’s 2024 presidential run, ⁣Noem has been vocal about the southern border crisis, referring to it as a “warzone” and supporting the ‍efforts of Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX).

Since President Biden took office, over 10 million immigrants have reportedly entered the country illegally, marking the highest number recorded during ⁤the same time period under any administration.

Why is the banishment of Governor Noem seen as an act of self-defense and self-preservation by the‌ Oglala Sioux‍ tribe

Risis and her⁤ support for⁤ the use of private security forces to⁢ handle the situation. The Oglala Sioux tribe, like many indigenous communities, has a long history⁢ of being ⁢marginalized and oppressed ⁣by the United‍ States government. They have faced countless violations of their⁤ sovereignty and have been subjected to systemic injustices. This ⁣latest move to ⁢banish Governor Noem is a powerful statement of their refusal to tolerate any further disrespect and mistreatment.

The decision to banish Governor Noem⁣ was not taken lightly. The Oglala ⁢Sioux tribe carefully considered her actions and words‍ before‌ reaching this conclusion. Governor Noem has repeatedly made statements⁣ that ⁣imply‍ a lack of concern for the rights and well-being of indigenous peoples. Her support for‌ the‍ use of private security forces to ⁤address the border crisis is particularly alarming. This suggests ⁢a willingness to bypass established legal ⁢processes and potentially exacerbate the violation of human rights.

Governor Noem’s comments and actions are a stark reminder ‍of the ongoing‌ struggles faced by indigenous communities in the United States. Throughout history, Native American ⁣tribes have been subjected to ‍forced ⁤removals, land seizures, and cultural and economic ‌exploitation. These injustices continue to be perpetuated, and the Oglala Sioux tribe’s decision to banish Governor Noem is an assertion of their right to self-governance⁣ and protection of their land and people.

It is crucial to recognize that the ⁤banishment of Governor Noem is not an act of hostility ⁣or aggression. Rather, it is‌ an act of self-defense and self-preservation. Indigenous communities have the right to safeguard their sovereignty and protect their cultural heritage. The Oglala Sioux ‌tribe’s decision to banish Governor Noem is an assertion of this right, as they refuse to allow their ‌community to be further marginalized or their⁢ concerns dismissed.

This action by ‍the Oglala Sioux tribe serves as a reminder that indigenous communities will no longer silently endure⁢ the mistreatment and disregard of their‍ rights. It is a call to action⁤ for government officials and society as a whole to listen, learn, and rectify the injustices that have been perpetrated against Native American tribes. Genuine efforts must be made to ⁢address the historical and ongoing⁢ oppression faced by indigenous communities and to honor the sovereignty⁤ and autonomy of tribes.

Governor Noem’s banishment from the ‌Oglala Sioux reservation is not merely a symbolic gesture. It represents a significant step towards reclaiming agency and asserting the rights of ⁤indigenous communities. It is a demonstration of the power and resilience of Native American tribes in the face of adversity. This decision should serve as a wake-up call, ⁤prompting us to re-evaluate our actions and attitudes towards‌ indigenous peoples and to work towards a more just and equitable ⁤future‌ for all.
