No ‘political will’ to rebuild California after the wildfires: Tiana Lowe Doescher

tiana Lowe Doescher, a columnist for the Washington Examiner, highlighted the lack of political will to rebuild California communities destroyed by the devastating January 2025 wildfires that killed at least 29 people and destroyed over 16,000 structures. In Malibu alone, about 600 homes burned, yet only 12 building permits have been issued for reconstruction. Californians remain displaced, living in accessory dwelling units because local authorities have not allowed homeowners to rebuild on their own land. Doescher criticized Governor Gavin Newsom for prioritizing affordable housing development before restoring the original homes, questioning how new housing can be funded when even previous homes cannot be rebuilt. Newsom had announced $101 million to jumpstart affordable multifamily rental housing in affected areas. Additionally,Doescher briefly discussed former President Donald Trump’s threat to sue the BBC over alleged misrepresentation in a video about his January 6,2021 speech, arguing that Trump has grounds to use UK defamation laws where applicable.

There is no ‘political will’ to rebuild California after the wildfires: Tiana Lowe Doescher

Washington Examiner columnist Tiana Lowe Doescher said Californians are still living in accessory dwelling units because the city and the county will not let them rebuild their homes, following the devastating wildfires

Lowe Doescher stated that approximately 600 homes burned in Malibu, and only 12 permits have been issued.

“There is just no political will to fix any of these places,” Lowe Doescher said on Fox News @ Night.

The January 2025 California wildfires killed at least 29 people and destroyed over 16,000 structures, burning over 50,000 acres.

Authorities arrested Jonathan Rinderknecht in October in connection with starting the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles in January.

Lowe Doescher criticized Gov. Gavin Newsom for committing to building affordable housing before rebuilding the communities destroyed by the wildfires.

“You can’t build the homes that were already there, let alone a new development, with what money,” Lowe Doescher. “If you guys can’t even let the homeowners build on their own land.”

Newsom announced in July the release of $101 million to rebuild affordable multifamily rental housing in the regions impacted by the Los Angeles fires.

Lowe Doescher also discussed President Donald Trump‘s threat to sue the BBC for editing a video of his speech on Jan. 6, 2021.

TRUMP VS. THE BBC

Lowe Doescher said if the United Kingdom will arrest people for misgendering someone for “tweets,” then Trump can sue.

“Why shouldn’t Donald Trump use their own defamation and insane speech laws against them?” she said. “In his case, he has actually been wronged.”
