Sam Harris opposes blanket condemnation of vaccines, emphasizing that no one should have the authority to make that decision.

Sam Harris on the⁢ Importance of Vaccines

In a recent interview on “Impact‌ Theory” with host Tom Bilyeu, renowned atheist Sam‍ Harris discussed the⁢ potential dangers of blanket condemnation⁣ of vaccines. Harris, who ⁢has been critical of Robert F. Kennedy’s stance on vaccines,⁤ emphasized ⁣the need ‍for a pragmatic‌ approach when‍ considering the ethical and political implications of vaccination.

“My view⁤ is‍ it‍ is a coin toss as‌ to what you do there,” Harris argued. “Now, if you‌ raise the stakes, more,‌ right, you⁤ make Trump even more sinister, you make⁣ the election even more‌ tenuous, you make the information even more dubious, then the dials change. And so many of these decisions are not decisions you can make categorically in⁤ principle; it really is this ‍pragmatic balancing of just what is true and what are‌ the stakes.”

Harris then‍ posed‍ a thought-provoking question⁣ to Bilyeu, asking ⁢if he believed it was wrong to mandate the mRNA vaccine for COVID. ‍He acknowledged that in⁣ hindsight, it may seem true, but stressed that altering⁢ certain variables could significantly impact one’s ethical⁢ and political ‌intuitions.

“You make it a much ⁣more obviously effective‍ vaccine that really does block transmission, so like a sterilizing vaccine,” Harris theorized. “You make it a much more dangerous‍ virus. You make it a⁤ virus that’s actually preferentially⁣ killing kids, rather than old people.”

He continued to ⁢explore ‌the ‍implications of personal ⁤choice in the context of ‍a deadlier pathogen, highlighting the potential risks it poses‌ to others, especially‍ children. Harris argued that in such a scenario, the choice to not get vaccinated would no‌ longer be ‌tolerated, as it ‍would directly endanger the‌ lives of others.

“Then you just have to be completely crazy to be worried about being vaccinated in ⁣that kind of ‍environment,” he asserted. “Then it’s just a no-brainer. ‍Then we just⁢ don’t tolerate diversity of opinion because the stakes are too high. It’s a⁣ full-on emergency. Bodies of kids are being stacked up⁢ in parks. There’s so many of them we ⁢don’t know what ⁤to do with them; we’ve got these mobile morgues and we have a vaccine that ‍actually ‍works?”

Harris⁢ expressed his concerns about the potential consequences of vaccine ‌skepticism, ⁣referencing RFK Jr.’s remarks on Joe Rogan’s podcast.‍ He emphasized that in a world ⁢where children were dying in large numbers from COVID, ⁣there would‍ be no ⁤room for patience when‌ it comes to questioning ⁢the efficacy of vaccines.
