Newt Gingrich Predicts Republicans Will Pick Up Between 20-70 Seats in the House

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich predicts that the “red wave” in November will surpass even optimists’ expectations, with Republicans winning 20-70 seats in the House and three to seven seats in the Senate.

Gingrich justified his bold prediction by pointing to the rising cost of living, saying that anger over a perceived failure of the ruling Democrats will translate into a decisive number of people voting for their opponents.

MCCONNELL ADMITS GOP MAY NOT RETAKE SENATE IN NOVEMBER

“It’s just a question of on Election Day … when somebody goes in to vote, do they remember the last time they went to the grocery store? Do you remember the last time they filled up their car?” he said on Fox & Friends on Monday. “But I think as real Americans face crime in the street, they face prices at the gas station, prices at the grocery store, and they’re going to start facing layoffs as the Federal Reserve keeps raising interest rates. I just think in the end, they go in and say, ‘This ain’t working,’ and they vote against the Democrats, and that means they vote Republican.”

Aside from rising costs of living, Gingrich said he believes that the social policies Democrats hold regarding education especially will help tip things in Republicans’ favor.

“You’ve got about 20 million families now that have not been able to pay their electricity bills. How many of them are going to start facing having their electricity cut off? And frankly, you can’t function in a modern society without electricity. I just think all of these things are compounding, and I think that you have the rejection,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich’s optimistic prediction stands in stark contrast to the skepticism of many mainstream Republicans, who fear that the midterm elections might not turn out in Republicans’ favor. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said last month that Republicans may not win back the Senate, pointing to problems with “candidate quality.”
