Newsom announces new memoir

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that he will release a memoir titled *Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery* on February 24,2026,shortly before the end of his second term as governor. Newsom describes the book as a vulnerable and honest account of how various people and experiences shaped him into the person he is today, portraying himself as an “outsider on the inside.” He hopes the memoir will resonate with readers irrespective of their opinions of him and has stated that it is indeed also a gift to his children to explain the paradoxes that influence personal identity. This memoir is part of Newsom’s broader effort to connect with a national audience ahead of speculation about a possible 2028 presidential run. Alongside the book, Newsom has engaged a wider audience through his podcast and has been an outspoken critic of former President Donald trump.

Newsom announces memoir he hopes readers will ‘connect’ with next year

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) unveiled his upcoming memoir on Tuesday, describing it as the story of how people formed him and made him “who I am.”

The book, titled Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery, is scheduled for release on Feb. 24, 2026, a little less than a year before Newsom completes his second term as governor. Newsom touted the memoir as a “truly vulnerable book,” and a story of an “outsider on the inside.”

“I hope that whatever your opinions of me are, the openness, the honesty I felt in writing this, in living it, will resonate,” Newsom said in a video on X.

The governor also said he wrote the book as “a gift” for his children to inform them how “paradoxes” shape them. He concluded his video by expressing hope readers will “connect with and relate to.”

Newsom’s memoir is his latest bid to reach out to U.S. residents outside of California, as many consider him a likely contender for the 2028 presidential election. Newsom started his own podcast earlier this year, This is Gavin Newsom, with guests ranging from the late Charlie Kirk, commentator Steve Bannon, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), and Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT).

He has also been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, and his press office has made several posts mimicking Trump’s Truth Social statements over the past few months. Newsom explained in November that his press office has done this to hold up “a mirror to the madness.”

The Washington Examiner has contacted Newsom’s press office for comment.
