New York medical school touts anti-racist curriculum to earn high marks for diversity


According to a survey by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the medical school at the University of Buffalo has achieved a high score of 90% for its efforts towards diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The school has also integrated critical race theory into its curriculum. The responses to the survey, which assesses diversity, inclusion, culture, and equity, were obtained by the medical watchdog group Do No Harm and shared with the Washington Examiner.

The University of Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine has a “holistic admissions policy” and lobbied for DEI at the local, state, and national levels to guarantee a diverse student body. The school has also affirmed its commitment to incorporating equity initiatives in its curriculum. Last year, the medical school overhauled its curriculum to include anti-racism following a student petition.

The medical school believes that having more diversity among instructors is beneficial for all students and faculty, and that mentoring is critical in medical profession, according to a blog post.

However, the University of Buffalo did not respond to a comment request. Laura Morgan, the program manager of Do No Harm, accused the medical school of prioritizing political agendas over a quality medical education. Morgan argued that the school’s administrators “are putting identity politics over medical education,” and its push for DEI is seen throughout its responses to the DICE Inventory. Morgan called for a return to producing good doctors instead of engaging in political indoctrination.
