New video links Disney’s leftward shift to Bob Iger’s response to January 6th
Disney’s Political Shift: Tracing it Back to Bob Iger’s Reaction to Capitol Hill Riot
A new video released by Christopher Rufo reveals the moment Disney decided to take a political stance, and it all started with then chairman Bob Iger‘s response to the January 6th riot on Capitol Hill.
Rufo, teasing the video, stated, “I’ve obtained exclusive new video from Disney marking the exact moment the company decided to become political—days after January 6, 2021.”
Shortly after, he shared a two-minute clip where Iger can be heard saying, “In January 2021, then-Disney chairman Bob Iger told employees he was committing the company to ‘taking a stand’ on politics because of January 6, then praised himself for making Black Panther, which he said was an example of ‘diversity and inclusion.'”

“We’ve kind of shied away from politics, and in doing so, I think we’ve shied away from talking about issues that aren’t political at all,” Iger stated, emphasizing that important but apolitical topics were being avoided due to fear of being perceived as political.
He continued, “Because we believe in doing so, maybe it looks like we were taking a stand, but in that reality, we should be taking a stand. By the way, I take responsibility for this. I was CEO for 15 years. And so I managed the company’s public-facing processes and how we were portraying ourselves.”
Iger used the January 6th incident as an example, expressing the need for the company to be “less cautious” about addressing such events in the future.

“That’s not political on our part at all,” he clarified. “We know that what we saw was fundamentally wrong and it was rooted in hatred, disrespect, and contempt and intolerance.”
Iger then urged the company to focus more on projects like “Coco” and “Black Panther,” admitting that he had become complacent and self-congratulatory, failing to build upon those projects to further champion diversity.
Rufo’s previous videos exposing the extent of the “not at all secret gay agenda” in Disney programming gained attention, leading Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing to launch the Bentkey kids streaming app.
What sparked the debate about Disney’s shifting political stance and its potential impact on the entertainment industry?

This revelation has now sparked a debate about Disney’s shifting political stance and the possible impact it may have on the entertainment industry as a whole. Many are questioning whether it is appropriate for a company like Disney to take a political position.
Disney has long been known as a company that caters to a wide range of audiences, regardless of their political views. Its mission has always been to provide entertainment that brings joy and happiness to people from all walks of life. However, the events of January 6th seem to have prompted a change in direction.
Bob Iger, who served as Disney’s chairman for over a decade, made it clear in his statement that the company would now be taking a stand on politics. The reasoning behind this decision can be attributed to the Capitol Hill riot, which shook the nation and brought to light the deep divisions within the country.
In his speech to Disney employees, Iger highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion, using the blockbuster film Black Panther as an example. The movie, which celebrated black culture and showcased a predominantly black cast, was hailed as a major step forward in terms of representation in Hollywood.
Iger’s decision to link the company’s political stance to the events of January 6th and the success of Black Panther raises questions about the role of corporations in shaping public opinion. Should companies like Disney use their platform to promote a specific political agenda?
On one hand, it can be argued that companies have a responsibility to use their influence to advocate for positive change. By taking a political stand, Disney may be able to promote values such as diversity, inclusion, and equality, which are important in today’s society. Moreover, as one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, Disney has the power to reach millions of people and potentially shape public opinion.
However, others argue that companies should remain neutral and focus solely on entertaining their audiences. Taking a political stance may alienate a portion of their customer base, leading to financial repercussions. In an era where political polarization is at an all-time high, corporations need to tread carefully to avoid becoming embroiled in divisive debates.
The impact of Disney’s political shift remains to be seen. It is uncertain how the company’s decision will affect its relationship with its audience, as well as its standing within the entertainment industry. However, what is clear is that the events of January 6th had a profound impact on Disney’s leadership and sparked a departure from their previously apolitical stance.
As other companies navigate their way through the increasingly complex and polarized political landscape, it will be interesting to see whether Disney’s example sets a precedent or serves as a cautionary tale.
Ultimately, the question remains: should companies like Disney take a political stance? While there are arguments to be made on both sides, one thing is certain – the political landscape of the entertainment industry is changing, and Disney’s decision may mark a significant turning point.
