In a satirical interview, Nathan Wade addressed the Fani Willis controversy, stating, “I did my job.

Nathan Wade, a former prosecutor in former President Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case, answered questions about Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis during an appearance on the Daily Show.

Wade was mockingly questioned by “Quon,” played by actor Marlon Wayans, on Tuesday about his relationship with Willis, which led to much controversy earlier this year.

After Wade said Willis was less of a boss to him and “more analogous to a client,” Wayans questioned, “So you served her well?” as the audience laughed.

“I did. I did my job,” Wade responded.

Some social media users bashed Wade for appearing for the interview, which included an instance in which Wayans questioned Wade, “How can you not hit that?” Wade’s response to Wayans’s behavior was often to laugh, as the live audience did. However, the interview would likely have caused insult if not placed in the comedic setting in which it was.

Another moment saw Wayans do sexual poses for the camera while asking, “What position was it? Did that position look like this? Or this?” in response to Wade saying the district attorney’s office interviewed other people for the prosecutor position.

Wade and Willis have been scrutinized for their past intimate relationship, which they have admitted to, because Trump’s allies and co-defendants have argued that it was a conflict of interest for them to be working on the case together. The defendants and their attorneys have alleged Wade was hired for the case and the pair thus benefited financially from it, while Willis and Wade have maintained that the romance began only after his hiring. Trump and his allies have argued Willis must be taken off the case.

Hearings examining their relationship served as firepower for the case’s detractors. After several hearings in March, a judge ruled Willis could remain on the case so long as Wade withdrew from it, and he did. Trump has appealed the ruling, and an appeals court will review the matter in October, all but assuring Trump’s Georgia trial will take place after the 2024 presidential election.

Tuesday’s interview was not the only one Wade has sat for in recent weeks. And Willis’s allies have reportedly chided him for his participation.

“I think it is an unnecessary distraction and disrespectful to both the process and the DA for Mr. Wade to be giving interviews at this time,” former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin said, the Atlantic Journal-Constitution reported.

Trump was convicted in his New York hush money trial in May, and he awaits sentencing in July.
