Vivek Ramaswamy urges FBI to disclose Nashville shooter’s manifesto.
2024 GOP Presidential Candidate Demands Release of Covenant School Shooter’s Manifesto
In a bold move, Vivek Ramaswamy, a potential candidate for the 2024 GOP presidential race, is demanding that Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN), the FBI, and Nashville law enforcement release the controversial Covenant School shooter’s manifesto to the public. Despite strong opposition from parents of the school, Ramaswamy believes it is crucial for the manifesto to be made public.
During a news conference in Nashville, Ramaswamy, accompanied by Candace Owens, emphasized the importance of this demand. He pointed out that it has been a “long-standing tradition” for law enforcement to release a shooter’s manifesto, citing previous high-profile mass shootings where manifestos were made public shortly after the attacks.
Building Public Trust
Ramaswamy criticized Gov. Lee for initially promising to release the manifesto in April, only to backtrack on his commitment. Expressing his disappointment, Ramaswamy stated, “Today, we’re sitting here in August with nothing but stonewalled silence from our government. That is wrong. That does not build public trust.”
Continuing his plea, Ramaswamy urged, “Release the manifesto. Speak the truth.” He emphasized that his stance on this issue is not as a presidential candidate, but rather as a concerned father and patriotic American. He firmly believes that by learning from past mistakes, future tragedies can be prevented.
Parents from the Covenant School, representing the families of three shooting victims, strongly opposed the release of the manifesto in a court filing back in May. They argued that the writings, believed to be the disturbed thoughts of a mentally unstable individual, should not be made public. However, in June, the shooter’s parents transferred ownership of the manifesto to the parents of Covenant School students.
Addressing the concerns of those against the manifesto’s release, Ramaswamy acknowledged their legitimacy. He suggested that law enforcement could redact any sections containing specific plans or information that could potentially be replicated by another potential shooter.
The victims of the tragic Covenant School shooting were students Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all aged 9, as well as substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, Head of School Katherine Koonce, and custodian Mike Hill, all in their 60s.
