Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has made a bold choice in endorsing the replacement for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as House speaker. In an appearance on Face the Nation Sunday, Mace explained her decision to support Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a founding member of the Freedom Caucus and an experienced eight-term representative. Currently serving as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jordan has proven himself to be a dedicated and hardworking individual.
“Jim Jordan is the right choice for speaker for several reasons,”
Mace declared. “His values, work ethic, and unmatched policy expertise make him stand out. We need a change, as our Congress has been unproductive for far too long. Jordan will be a true workhorse for our country.”
Mace was among the eight representatives who voted to remove McCarthy from his position as speaker, citing his lack of action on women’s issues and legislation. It is worth noting that Jordan has taken a strong anti-abortion stance throughout his career.
While acknowledging that there may be areas of agreement and disagreement with Jordan’s positions, Mace admitted that she was unaware of the allegations against him regarding the alleged mishandling of sexual abuse cases at Ohio State University.
Mace’s endorsement adds to the growing support for Jordan, including a previous endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the current House majority leader, has also expressed interest in the position.
McCarthy’s tenure as speaker was the shortest in over a century, lasting just over nine months. He succeeded Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who served for nearly eight years.
