Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has made a bold move by endorsing a replacement for Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after voting to remove him as House speaker. In an engaging appearance on Face the Nation Sunday, Mace publicly announced her support for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a founding member of the Freedom Caucus and an experienced eight-term representative. Currently, Jordan also holds the position of chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

“Today, I am proud to declare my support for Jim Jordan as speaker for a number of compelling reasons,” Mace confidently stated. “His values, work ethic, and unparalleled policy expertise make him stand out. We need a change, as our Congress has been one of the least productive in 30 years. Jordan will be a dedicated workhorse for our country.”
Mace was among the eight individuals who ousted McCarthy, citing his lack of action on women’s issues and legislation. It is worth noting that Jordan has taken a staunchly anti-abortion stance throughout his career.
“While there may be issues on which we agree or disagree,” Mace acknowledged, “I firmly believe in Jordan’s ability to lead and make a positive impact.” However, she admitted that she was not aware of the allegations against him regarding his alleged negligence in addressing sexual abuse at Ohio State University.
Mace’s endorsement adds to the growing support for Jordan, including a previous endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Additionally, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the current House majority leader, has also expressed interest in the position.
McCarthy’s speakership was the shortest in over a century, lasting just over nine months. He succeeded Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who served for nearly eight years.
