“I don’t even think Nancy Mace can win reelection,” McCarthy added. “I don’t think she represents her district.”
Mace was one of eight Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy as speaker, citing his inaction on women’s issues as a major reason for her decision.
Mace’s endorsement of Trump for president in January surprised many, as it came after Trump had endorsed her primary challenger. This move was seen as a slight to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who had supported Mace’s reelection campaign.
