Nude Men at Pride Parades in US and Canada
LGBT Pride Festivities: Nudity and Controversy
Over the weekend, LGBT Pride celebrations in the U.S. and Canada made headlines for their bold and provocative displays. In Seattle, a Pride parade shocked onlookers as men on bikes rode naked in front of children, causing quite a stir (video here; warning: contains full frontal nudity).
The Seattle Pride parade, which prides itself on inclusiveness and attracting people of all ages, also featured the unexpected participation of Boy Scouts.

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell took to Twitter to express his support for the LGBTQIA+ community, emphasizing the importance of diversity and acceptance:
It was great to feel the love, energy, and sunshine at today’s #Pride parade with @CityofSeattle employees! Our diversity makes us stronger, which is why we must send a clear message to our LGBTQIA+ community today and every day: we see you, we support you, and you belong here. pic.twitter.com/O1Ab3RHi2A

However, not everyone was thrilled with the explicit nature of the festivities. Producer Dennis Michael Lynch voiced his concerns, stating, “If you’re going to paint yourself, walk around naked, and play in a public fountain, I question your level of sanity. But when you do it in front of kids, without pause, I think you should be placed on a watch list.”

In Toronto, similar scenes unfolded as naked men stood nonchalantly on the streets while children passed by.

Adding to the controversy, the Toronto Pride festivities, partially sponsored by Bud Light, allowed attendees to vote on whether sex education should be taught to kindergartners.

Bud Light, a long-time supporter of Pride Toronto, faced its own challenges after facing backlash for their endorsement deal with Dylan Mulvaney, a flamboyant trans influencer who identifies as a woman. This controversy led to a significant decline in Bud Light’s sales.
Bud Light Canada, however, remains committed to supporting the LGBTQIA2S+ community, stating on their website, “In 2023, Bud Light Canada is also providing a total of $100,000 to various organizations supporting the LGBTQIA2S+ community across Canada.”
Despite the ongoing debates and controversies, Pride celebrations continue to be a platform for self-expression, inclusivity, and the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights.
