X owner Elon Musk joked about Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s newest venture in artificial intelligence, two years after Musk launched his own AI chatbot.
Bezos is jumping into the crowded AI industry by becoming co-CEO of Project Prometheus, according to the New York Times. Besides Musk’s xAI company, Bezos will be competing against Google, Meta, and ChatGPT in the tech space.
“Haha no way,” Musk wrote on X Monday with a laughing emoji. “Copy [cat emoji].”
Musk is already working on the fifth iteration of his Grok AI chatbot. xAI’s latest project was Grokipedia, a Wikipedia-like website written with AI.
Bezos is going on four years since stepping down as Amazon’s chief executive. Shortly before stepping away, Bezos merged Amazon with self-driving car company Zoox in 2020. That was over 15 years after Musk became the chairman of Tesla, his electric car company that also specializes in autonomous driving. In 2000, Bezos founded Blue Origin, followed by Musk founding SpaceX in 2002.
The similar career paths have prompted Musk to defend his companies against those of Bezos. Earlier this year, when then-acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy suggested NASA open up contracts to more companies other than SpaceX, Musk mocked the implied comparison between SpaceX and Blue Origin.
“Blue Origin has never delivered a payload to orbit, let alone the Moon,” Musk wrote on X at the time.

Blue Origin currently only has plans for a cargo lunar lander.
