An 11-year-old child tragically lost their life and five others were injured during a horrifying mass shooting in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge revealed that the shooting took place on Friday night at approximately 9:20 p.m. ET. The incident resulted in the death of an 11-year-old child and left five others, including more children, wounded.
Chief Theetge stated that the police received a 9-1-1 call and quickly responded to the scene after receiving ShotSpotter alerts in the city’s West End neighborhood.
Reports indicate that three victims were taken to Children’s Hospital Medical Center, with one in critical condition, and two others were transported to University Hospital.
The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, according to Chief Theetge.
“Homicide is here working the scene … so that we can gather every bit of evidence that we can gather to bring whoever’s responsible for this to justice,” Theetge said. “This is absolutely unacceptable in our city — unacceptable that on a Friday night, six people were shot in one incident.”
The Cincinnati Police Department has scheduled a press conference on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET to provide further details on the case.
The identities and ages of the other victims have not yet been released.
Mayor Aftab Pureval (D-Ohio) took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to request prayers for the victims.
