MTG slams eight Republicans who tabled Mayorkas impeachment: ‘How many more Americans have to die’
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Slams Republicans for Blocking Impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) didn’t hold back in criticizing the eight Republicans who voted against her articles of impeachment targeting Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Greene called their reasons for tabling the resolution “pathetic” and accused them of disregarding the safety of American citizens.
“To the 8 Republicans who voted with Dems to kill the impeachment of Mayorkas: How many more Americans have to die while you claim impeachment has to be done the ‘right way?'” Greene posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “My articles have been rotting in committee and now go back on the shelf. Your excuses are pathetic!”
The resolution accused Mayorkas of willfully allowing border crossers and violating the Secure Fence Act of 2006. However, the House rejected the impeachment resolution on Monday, thanks in part to the votes of Reps. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Tom McClintock (R-CA), John Duarte (R-CA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Darrell Issa (R-CA), Cliff Bentz (R-OR), Ken Buck (R-CO), and Michael Turner (R-OH), who joined Democrats in referring the resolution to committee instead of bringing it to a floor vote.
McClintock, one of the Republicans who voted against the impeachment, defended his decision by stating that impeachments should only be based on clear crimes, not political disagreements.
“To remove an official by impeachment, it must be for a clearly defined crime and it must be a ‘high’ crime, meaning one related to the official’s duties,” McClintock said in a statement. “The House made a mockery of impeachment twice during the last session of Congress. We must not allow the left to become our teachers.”
He continued, “If these clear constitutional principles are not restored, now, that power will be just one election from being turned against the constitutionalists on the Supreme Court, or upon any future Republican administration.”
The ongoing crisis at the southern border has been a major concern for Republicans, as illegal border crossings continue to reach record levels. In October alone, over 240,000 noncitizens attempted to enter the country illegally, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. This issue has become a vulnerability for President Biden as he looks ahead to the 2024 election, with Republicans blaming his reversal of Trump administration policies for sending a message that illegal immigrants won’t be deported.

What specific actions has Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas taken that have led to a surge in illegal immigration and a threat to national security?
Can’t claim to care about the safety of this nation and its citizens while allowing this man to continue leading the Department of Homeland Security.”
Greene’s articles of impeachment accused Mayorkas of failing to address the ongoing border crisis and for disregarding his duty to protect American citizens. The resolution alleged that Mayorkas’s policies have resulted in a surge of illegal immigration, contributing to an overwhelmed border patrol and posing a threat to national security.
The eight Republicans who voted against Greene’s resolution argued that impeachment should only be pursued after a proper investigation and due process. They expressed concerns about the lack of evidence and the need for thorough examination before taking such significant actions.
However, Greene insisted that the urgency of the situation demanded immediate action. She pointed out that the border crisis is not a new issue and has been escalating for months. With each passing day, more Americans are affected by the consequences of uncontrolled immigration.
Despite the disagreement within the Republican party, Greene’s commitment to holding the Department of Homeland Security accountable remains unwavering. She vowed to continue her fight to impeach Mayorkas, highlighting the need for leadership and decisive action in addressing the border crisis.
The clash between Greene and her fellow Republicans highlights the broader divide within the party regarding immigration policy and the appropriate response to the ongoing border crisis. While some Republicans advocate for stricter border control measures, others emphasize the importance of addressing the root causes of migration, such as poverty and political instability in immigrants’ home countries.
The impeachment resolution targeting Mayorkas serves as a reflection of the deep divisions within the Republican party. It underscores the challenges faced by Republicans in finding common ground and presenting a unified front on critical issues, including immigration and national security.
As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether Greene’s outspoken criticism and determination to pursue impeachment will gain traction or further widen the divide within the Republican party. Nevertheless, her efforts shed light on the urgency of addressing the border crisis and the need for comprehensive and effective strategies to safeguard the security and well-being of American citizens.
In the midst of such contentious debates and disagreements, it is crucial for Republicans and Democrats to prioritize the interests of the nation and its citizens above partisan politics. As elected representatives, it is their duty to work together in the best interests of all Americans, finding common solutions and compromises that promote the safety and prosperity of the country.
Whether Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s call for impeachment will gain widespread support or be dismissed as divisive remains uncertain. However, the ongoing discussions surrounding the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas shed light on the complicated nature of addressing immigration policy and national security concerns. It is vital for policymakers to approach these discussions with a commitment to finding practical and impactful solutions that prioritize the safety and well-being of the American people.
