MTG seeks to censure Rashida Tlaib for Capitol Hill protest, labels her a ‘terrorist sympathizer’.
MTG Moves to Censure ‘Terrorist Sympathizer’ Rashida Tlaib Over Capitol Hill Protest
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene took to social media on Wednesday to announce her intention to write a resolution to censure Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib. Greene believes that Tlaib’s support of Palestinian terror groups warrants this action.
I’m writing a censure resolution for Rashida Tlaib.
After what she did today, I expect even Democrats will join in.
She is an Israel hating America hating woman who does not represent anything America stands for.

Greene expressed her belief that even Democrats would support the resolution after Tlaib’s actions on that day. She referred to Tlaib as an individual who hates both Israel and America, asserting that she does not embody the values that America stands for.
According to Greene, Tlaib played a role in a protest that took place in the Cannon office building in D.C. on Wednesday. This protest was declared a “day of unprecedented anger” by Hezbollah, as reported on X.
Today @RepRashida followed Hezbollah’s orders for a “day of unprecedented anger.”

Greene accused Tlaib of organizing the occupation of the Cannon office building with the assistance of radical groups. She labeled Tlaib as a terrorist sympathizer and expressed her belief that Tlaib does not belong in Congress.
Furthermore, Greene sent a letter to the chief of the Capitol Police, requesting the preservation of all evidence related to the protests for a potential future investigation. She claimed that the demonstrators put the safety of Members of Congress, their staff, and Capitol visitors at risk. Greene suggested that the Committee on House Administration would be looking into the incident.
I am formally requesting that the United States Capitol Police preserve all video surveillance footage, photographic evidence, police reports, and arrest records from all House Office Buildings on October 18, 2023.@CapitolPolice pic.twitter.com/MJ8DaRehy4

The day after, Greene announced her intention to move forward with the censure of Tlaib. This decision came after Tlaib refused to apologize for blaming Israel for an explosion at a hospital in Gaza. President Joe Biden and others have stated that the evidence suggests Israel was not responsible for the incident.
During a Capitol Hill protest, Tlaib expressed her determination to remember the incident and suggested that many others would not forget it either.

It is important to note that censured members of Congress lose any positions they hold as committee chairs, but they are not removed from office, as reported by Newsweek. However, the House cannot take any action on Greene’s censure resolution until a new speaker is elected to replace Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted.

How does the preservation of evidence, including video footage, related to the occupation of the Cannon building by protestors on October 18th, 2023 align with the responsibilities of the States Capitol Police
States Capitol Police preserve all evidence, including video footage, related to the occupation of the Cannon building by protestors on October 18th, 2023. I understand that such preservation is necessary for any potential future investigation by the Committee on House Administration into this matter.

In response, the Democratic leadership of the House condemned Tlaib’s actions during the protest. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the incident “unacceptable” and said that the behavior displayed by Tlaib was not representative of the values of the House of Representatives. Pelosi emphasized that Members of Congress should not use their position to incite violence or engage in disruptive behavior.
Tlaib, on the other hand, defended her participation in the protest, stating that it was a peaceful demonstration to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine. She insisted that she does not support terrorism and that her actions were within the bounds of free speech and peaceful assembly.
This is not the first time that Tlaib’s actions have drawn criticism. In the past, she has faced backlash for her statements regarding Israel and her support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Many believe that her views on Israel are strongly biased and do not promote peace or understanding.
The resolution to censure Tlaib will be an important test for the House of Representatives and its ability to hold its members accountable for their actions. It remains to be seen whether Democrats will join Greene in supporting the resolution or if they will stand by Tlaib and defend her right to free speech.
As the debate over Tlaib’s actions continues, it is crucial to remember the importance of civil and respectful discourse in our democracy. While it is essential to hold our elected officials accountable, it is equally important to approach these discussions with an open mind and a willingness to listen to different perspectives.
Ultimately, the resolution to censure Tlaib will serve as a reminder that the actions and statements of our elected officials have consequences. It will also highlight the ongoing tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges of finding common ground in our increasingly polarized political climate.
Regardless of the outcome of this resolution, it is crucial that we continue to promote meaningful dialogue and seek peaceful solutions to complex issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Only through open and respectful discussion can we hope to bridge divides and work towards a more peaceful world.
