MSNBC panel mocks Ron DeSantis’ wife, resorts to name-calling and laughter.
A Panel Discussion Turns Ugly: Insults and Laughter at Florida’s First Lady
A recent panel discussion on MSNBC took a disturbing turn as the host and guests resorted to slinging insults at Florida’s First Lady, Casey DeSantis. What’s worse, they found their own jokes about her to be hilarious.
The panel, led by weekend anchor Jonathan Capehart, featured former Florida congressman and ex-Republican David Jolly, along with former GOP communications director Tara Setmayer. All three of them launched a scathing attack on Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), specifically targeting Casey DeSantis’ recent “Mamas for DeSantis” campaign ad.

The controversial ad in question addressed the same cultural issues that Governor DeSantis has been vocal about, both during his campaign and in his state. It focused on the challenges families face as their children encounter radical gender ideology and drag queen story hours in public schools and libraries.
“It’s so dark!” Capehart exclaimed after airing the ad, prompting his panelists to share their thoughts.
“Casey DeSantis is an influential political figure in Florida and now nationally,” Jolly began on a positive note. “For many, she represents the brighter side of Florida’s angry governor. However, for others, she has become America’s Karen. And I believe that’s the fundamental disconnect here with a campaign that needs to appeal to a broader range of constituents to reach the White House.”
Jolly further expressed his belief that Casey DeSantis, though a “more effective” messenger than the governor himself, was promoting a message that would not resonate with the majority. “So, whether it’s presented in heels or boots, the DeSantis doctrine is a losing one, and we will realize that as Casey becomes more visible,” he concluded.
“David Jolly, you really went for it!” Capehart chuckled. “Tara, I think David has outdone you in leaving me speechless during a segment.”
“Well, I called her the Serena Waterford wannabe, and she needs to cut it out,” Setmayer retorted, referencing the villainous character from “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
“She needs to stop pretending she’s measuring the drapes in the White House and thinking she’s some kind of Jackie O reincarnated,” Setmayer added with a hint of sarcasm.
Surprisingly, none of the panelists addressed the content of Casey DeSantis’ ad or any aspect of the so-called “DeSantis doctrine” that they deemed a “losing doctrine.”
