More than 47 million Americans are expected to travel this holiday weekend. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the company anticipates travel over the Fourth of July holiday to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Despite soaring gas prices across the nation, 91 percent of travelers will hit the road this year, making it the highest on record. While traffic jams are inevitable, the report noted the worst times to drive are expected to be between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

AAA said if traveling by airplane, they recommend patience is key to having a stress-free weekend.

“We’ve heard anecdotally that, you know, lines are longer. So we’re telling people always pack your patience,” said AAA Spokesperson Andrew Gross. “Expect that there’s going to be lines at the airport. You know, the TSA lines will be a little longer so don’t get frustrated.

Overall, AAA said this will be the second highest Independence Day volume on record, which is an increase of nearly 40 percent to this time last year.
