More Kids are shot in Chicago than those dying from COVID

While the media seem single-mindedly obsessed with COVID deaths, particularly in places run by conservatives like Florida and Texas, in the city of Chicago 261 young people under the age of 17 have suffered gunshot wounds in 2021.

That exceeds the number of young people who have died from COVID across the entire nation this year.

The numbers come from police and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but are nowhere to be found on news outlets like CNN.

While 214 children 17 or younger have died of COVID-19 so far this year in the country, some 261 children have been shot in Chicago, the city’s police department told FOX 32 Chicago the week of Sept. 11. Some 41 of the shooting victims have died.

Deaths of children from COVID make up 0-0.27% of all COVID-19 deaths in the states that reported data. Seven states reported no deaths among children, reported the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics.

In Illinois, the state Department of Public Health confirmed to Fox News that 25 people under the age of 18 have died of COVID-19 since the pandemic started, or six in every 100,000 people. The CDC has logged 18 total COVID-19 deaths in Illinois in 2021, as Outkick first reported.

Compare the numbers hit by bullets: On Labor Day weekend 63 people were shot, with victims including eight children. Among the six killed out of 63 wounded was a 4-year-old Alabama boy who died after he was shot on Sept. 10 while getting his hair braided in a west side apartment, authorities said.

The boy’s mother, Angela Gregg, told the Chicago Tribune on Sept. 13 that she does not know why her son was targeted, bu that he was “not supposed to lose his life at 4 years old, and somebody needs to step up and say something.”
