Moore says Trump ‘gets’ voters and warns Democrats are too ‘slow’

Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat, told CBS News that Democrats should match Donald Trump’s pace of policymaking and act with urgency, urging his party too stop being “the party of no and slow” and become “the party of yes and now.” Moore criticized Trump’s administration on issues like redistricting, welfare cuts, and ICE tactics, arguing that voters prefer decisive action over lengthy analyses. he stressed that matters such as housing require immediate solutions rather than long,drawn-out studies. While he has been seen as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, Moore said he is not running and remains focused on his current job and reelection.

Trump ‘ironically’ gets voters and ‘does not waste time,’ Wes Moore says in warning to Democrats

Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) on Sunday advised Democrats to follow President Donald Trump’s speed of policymaking, expressing concern that his party is failing to deliver timely results for the public.

“There’s something that we have to make sure that we do better, and that’s actually meet people where they are and move with a sense of urgency,” Moore warned during a CBS News town hall. “The Democrats have got to stop being the party of no and slow and start being the party of yes and now.”

“Do you know, ironically, who gets that? Donald Trump. Because he does not waste time,” the Maryland Democrat said.

Moore has emerged as a leading critic of the Trump administration on a number of issues, including redistricting efforts, cutting back welfare programs, and controversial Immigration and Customs Enforcement tactics used during recent operations in Minnesota.

He continued to criticize Trump’s policies during the town hall, but noted that voters appreciate decisive action over rhetorical promises. In contrast, Moore told host Norah O’Donnell that Democrats too often fall into the trap of offering lengthy bureaucratic approaches to issues voters want solved immediately.

“Donald Trump did not need an analysis to decide that he was going to rip away food assistance for the people of our state. Donald Trump did not need a five-year study to determine that he was going to deploy federal agents inside of our communities and neighborhoods with no accountability,” he said.

“If I’m telling you that, ‘You know what? I feel like housing prices are just going out of control,’ I don’t want you to tell me, ‘So let me figure out how we can do an analysis, a 10-year analysis about how we can build more housing.’ No, what I need you to do is build more housing now,” Moore continued. “Everything cannot be a 10-year study. Everything cannot be a 15-year analysis.”

Moore has been widely viewed as a potential 2028 presidential candidate. On Sunday, he sought to tamp down the rumors.

“I’m not running for president,” Moore said. “I don’t see a reason … I love my job, and I love what I’m doing.”
