Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) has refuted Democrat attacks on his decision to ditch face masks and fully reopen his state. The Republican said it’s not up to Joe Biden or anyone in Washington to decide how individual states should handle coronavirus lockdowns.

His remarks came after Biden referred to Reeves’ decision to lift pandemic restrictions as “Neanderthal thinking” while asserting that face masks still matter.

“Today I feel the same way as I did the day that Hillary Clinton called all of us in middle America ‘deplorables,’ but the fact of the matter is we are simply doing the things to give our people the power back to do what they think is best for themselves and their family,” stated the governor.

Reeves added, the state of Mississippi trusts its citizens to keep themselves safe, not Biden who is only capable of insulting hard working Americans. “We don’t need the government to tell us what we can and cannot do,” he stated.

Reeves added, his state is advancing COVID-19 vaccinations at a faster pace than many other states, which has resulted in decreasing infections by the day.
