Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Praises President Biden as “Highly Effective”
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) shared his praise of President Joe Biden on Sunday morning, calling him ”one of the most highly effective presidents we’ve ever seen.”
Walz’s statement comes as Biden is running for a second term in the White House as part of the 2024 presidential election, facing a couple Democratic primary opponents in Marianne Williamson and Robert Kennedy Jr. During an interview on NBC News on Sunday, Walz was asked if Biden was the strongest candidate the Democratic Party could nominate, to which he replied: “Absolutely.”

“First of all, he’s been one of the most highly effective presidents we’ve ever seen,” Walz said. “I sat in Congress for 12 years waiting for infrastructure week, he actually delivered on this. And look, Dean [Phillips] is a friend of mine, I love him, but I spent last week on Mackinac Island with Tony Evers and Gretchen Whitmer talking about how we’re going to make sure we win this for Joe Biden.”
One of the biggest concerns Democrats have regarding Biden running for reelection is his age, as Biden will be turning 81 this November. Walz stated that the debate on who should be the Democratic nominee for 2024 is not about Biden’s age or experience but rather about “protecting the democracy.”
“Look, at the end of the day, Democrats understand,” Walz said. “If you want to have reproductive freedoms, if you want to move towards a climate change agenda that actually works, if you want decency in the White House, you’ve got one choice, and that’s to vote for Joe Biden.”
Earlier this month, a poll stated that 50% of Democratic primary voters said the party should nominate a different candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Less than half of respondents in the poll, 45%, believe that Biden should be renominated.

Republicans are seeking to retake the White House in 2024, with several candidates, including former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), running in the party’s primary. The first Republican presidential debate will be held on Wednesday.
Trump and DeSantis are currently considered the frontrunners of the primary, though both are virtually tied with President Joe Biden in theoretical head-to-head matchups, according to polling data. In a faceoff, Trump received 41% support compared to Biden’s 44% support, while DeSantis did slightly better, with 41% support against Biden’s 43%.
