Mike Pence pledges to restore transgender ban in US military.
Vice President Mike Pence Vows to Reinstate Transgender Military Ban
Vice President Mike Pence made a bold statement on Friday, promising to reinstate former President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender individuals serving in the U.S. military. Speaking at the Iowa Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner in Des Moines, Pence emphasized the need for a military that is prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century.
Pence declared, “We can embrace our role as leader of the free world to confront Russian aggression and Chinese provocations with a new military fitted to the challenges in the 21st century. And we can end the political correctness at the Pentagon, including reinstituting a ban on transgender personnel in the United States military.”
Trump’s Announcement and Support
Trump initially announced the ban on Twitter in July 2017, stating, “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”
Recently, Trump reiterated his intention to reinstate the ban if he were to become president again. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also pledged to ban transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military during his campaign.
Not All Republicans in Agreement
However, it’s important to note that not all Republicans support the ban on transgender individuals in the military. Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential candidate, expressed his support for allowing transgender individuals to serve in the U.S. military during an interview last month.
Ramaswamy’s stance differs from Pence, Trump, and DeSantis, highlighting the diversity of opinions within the Republican party on this issue.
