Mike Pence Pandering To D.C. Media Is Pathetic And Disqualifying

Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke at the Gridiron Club dinner on Saturday night. This white-tie event brings together Beltway media insiders and Beltway media. Pence used the occasion to praise D.C. media and attack Tucker Carlson. He also condemned Donald Trump.

“History will hold Donald Trump accountable for Jan. 6,” Pence . “Make no mistake about it: What happened that day was a disgrace, and it mocks decency to portray it in any other way,” Pence spoke out about Tucker Carlson’s journalism that is in contradiction to the official narrative.

Pence also praised corporate media, saying: “We were able to stay at our post in part because you stayed at your post. The American people know what happened that day because you never stopped reporting.”

As if Pence’s opinions on the virtues and limitations of the propaganda media weren’t enough, his handlers boasted to the same media that they had lavished him with praises and attacked Trump and Carlson in his long-shot campaign for the Republican nomination.

Really. According to a new Politico articleBecause they were unable to speak for themselves, the Pence team purposely crafted their remarks. “believed it would help Pence win over his most skeptical audience these days: Washington insiders and journalists.”

It’s not a crime, but how can these people be considered political professionals? How many decades worth of political history has taught anyone with a pulse that Republican pandering is a fool’s game? What world is this strategy possible?

This strategy has never worked, and it will not work again.

Think about 2008 Republican nominee Senator John McCain, who is the most beloved by the media. Arizona senator Sen. John McCain was so well treated by the media because he is self-described “straight-talk” Attacks on fellow Republicans, which he used to jokely refer to them as his “base.” True, they did support him and helped him get the nomination. They turned against him as soon as he threatened Sen. Barack Obama, who was the object of their affection and devotion. He could have been Ronald Reagan or George H. W. Bush, Bob Dole or Mitt Romney.

Pence has not indicated that he will receive a honeymoon like McCain received. This lesson should have been learned when he, the governor of Indiana, caved to media demands. His state has less religious freedom. His cowardice didn’t result in favorable media coverage while he was vice-president. They hate everything about him. They mock him even for the way he and his wife treat each other. Protect their marriage!

True, attacking fellow conservatives and Republicans will always get some positive media coverage. This is the only way for a nonleftist to be published in The New York Times. It is the only way to be airbroadcast on NBC and CNN. Although it’s self-deprecating and a dereliction to duty to your voters, it’s worth it for a brief moment of non-hostility by the corporate press.

Compare Pence’s efforts with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis handles corporate media. He treats them as though he is aware that they are Republicans’ most staunch political adversaries. He exposes their flaws and lies during press conferences. In the futile hope of them being nicer, he doesn’t give them breaking news. He does not treat the non-leftist press as well or worse than the corrupt propaganda press. His communications team publishes the ridiculous questions they get and the answers they give. If they are from media that have lied about him, he refuses to consider requests legitimate.

Nothing is worse than a Republican complaining incoherently about the country “media bias” Instead of understanding that the country has entered an all-out information warfare, a Republican actually praises the press for its war against Republican voters.

Substantively Wrong

Pence’s pandering towards the corporate press was another problem. It was fundamentally wrong. In the chaos and drama surrounding the 2020 election, it rewrites Pence’s own history. Here’s Mike Pence in December 2020For example:

As our election contest continues, I will make you a promise: we will continue fighting until every legal vote counts. We won’t stop fighting until every illegal vote is out! We will win Georgia. We will save America. We will never stop fighting to make America great again!

Mike Pence is here Jan. 4, 2021Just two days before the Capitol riot and big rally, he was here:

I share the concerns expressed by millions of Americans concerning voting irregularities. I guarantee you that this Wednesday we will all have our moment in Congress. We will hear all the objections and hear all the evidence.

Moments before that “day in Congress” Pence sent a letter to Congress stating his belief in the Constitution. His role in that day’s events This would be solely ceremonial. It was a shock to those voters who had voted for him and his opponent in the fight against election irregularities. He may need to look at his own role if he is going to accuse third parties of riling the masses.

Pence is also wrong in attacking Carlson for showing video footage from the riot that was not in line with the official narrative of Nancy Pelosi’s cronies and the media. Tucker’s footage does not negate the violence that Pelosi, her co-democrats, used for years to gain partisan advantage. It did show that Jacob Chansley was given a tour of Capitol Hill that day, and that he was not considered violent by any of his encounters with police officers. It revealed that Ray Epps, a mysterious witness, gave testimony regarding his whereabouts. This contrasted with the video evidence. It showed that the Jan. 6, Committee’s show trial had lied to its jury when it misrepresented Sen. Josh Hawley’s behavior during the riot.

These journalistic revelations are a “disgrace” Reporters who lack Carlson’s courage and independence are shameful and reproachable.

Pence’s praise of the corporate press in the wake of Jan. 6 was wrong. Never underestimate the media “reported” It exploited the circumstances of the event and its aftermath for political purposes. Even though the media defended and extolled the Black Lives Matter riots which besieged the White House, a federal judgehouse and police precincts, they decided to make a ridiculous claim that the Jan. 6 riot was a literal insurrection. Even the same media that responded with horror and panic to the suggestion that order in American cities should be restored after violent rioters scared the citizens suddenly decided in Trump supporters’ case that First Amendment rights to speech, press and assembly were negotiable, constitutional defense rights were non-important and that some citizens didn’t deserve speedy trials.

This behavior by the propaganda media should not be praised by Americans. A man who seeks the votes of Republicans shouldn’t praise such behavior from the propaganda media for political reasons.

The United States is currently in an information war. Republicans face a greater political challenge from the corporate media than any Democrat running for office. Candidates for the Republican nomination should have a plan in place to defend and support Republican voters and their goals. Any candidate who plays footsie with these political enemies, in an incomprehensible plot to curry favor with them is disqualified from contention.
