There Are Basically Two Democrats Now Running In Oregon, Which Is Good News For The GOP

Betsy Johnson, an unaffiliated candidate running in the Oregon gubernatorial race, submitted signatures this week to try and qualify to be on the ballot. Her campaign said she would provide “well over” the necessary amount. The signatures will now be analyzed for verification.

GOP candidate Christine Drazan’s campaign put out the following statement:

“It looks all but certain that Oregonians will see two Democrats on their ballots this November: Tina Kotek and Betsy Johnson,” Trey Rosser, Drazan’s Campaign Manager said in a recent statement. 

“Oregonians, if you are happy with the way things are going in our state, then you have two great choices in these candidates. Either one will give you a third term of Kate Brown’s failed agenda,” Rosser added. “But if you are looking for someone who will lead our state in a new direction starting on Day One, then your candidate is Christine Drazan.”

Dems Promoted Proverbial Ultra-MAGA Candidate In Colorado, But Failed

Last week, GOP Senate Colorado candidate Joe O’Dea released a television ad saying he is “not a politician,” adding, “I’m not focused on political parties. I’ll do what’s right for our country.”

The outsider theme introduced by Trump, as evidenced by Youngkin and other candidates, continues to remain strong. Perhaps in O’Dea’s favor, a new report indicates that Democratic opponents wanted another candidate to secure the GOP Senate nomination over O’Dea. 

A political action committee connected to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) promoted O’Dea’s primary opponent, Ron Hanks. The PAC spent almost $2 million on ads pushing Hanks. It also spent over $2 million on ads discussing how O’Dea has given money to Democratic candidates, which included his Democratic senate opponent, Michael Bennet.

Alas, despite their best efforts, Hanks lost to O’Dea by nine points in the June primary.

Practically across the entire country, Democrats have spent money promoting MAGA candidates who they believe will be easier to beat in the general election. Will it backfire on the Left?

North Carolina Senate Race Is A Close One

Recent polling data shows Democratic North Carolina Senate candidate Cheri Beasley and Republican candidate Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) are running a tight race. The most recent average from FiveThirtyEight showed Beasly leading Budd by 0.1 points. Another survey by Blueprint Polling reportedly showed Beasley ahead of Budd by four points.

New Hampshire Becomes Two-Person GOP Primary, Candidates Get Some Unconventional Questions

New Hampshire’s GOP Senate primary is finally stabilizing as a two-person race after months of being a scattered field with no clear frontrunner.

Retired general Don Bolduc has pulled ahead of his fellow Republicans and now holds a strong lead of 32% over Chuck Morse with 16%, according to the August poll from St. Anselm College released Monday. Every other Republican candidate polled at under 5%.

Bolduc ran for Senate in 2020, which has provided him with name recognition and support in this race that other candidates have struggled to match.

Meanwhile, House and Senate candidates were asked some unconventional questions at a pair of debates hosted by the Government Integrity Project over the weekend. Candidates were peppered with questions like, “Would you label the FBI a ‘terrorist organization?’” and “Should we investigate Sen. Chuck Schumer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi for their role in January 6th?” The frontrunners provided very few headline-grabbing answers, however.

Morse did not attend Sunday’s debate for the GOP Senate field.

No Election Fraud In Nevada?

A Nevada judge last week dismissed a lawsuit against Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, the GOP nominee for governor. Republican Joey Gilbert challenged Lombardo’s primary victory alleging election fraud, but Gilbert failed to present “any competent evidence” to support his claims, according to the Associated Press. The judge’s decision clears the path for Lombardo’s challenge against incumbent Governor Steve Sisolak (D) in November.

Kari Lake Said What?!

Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake raised eyebrows earlier this week when she told a Turning Point USA conference audience in Phoenix, Arizona, that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has “BDE.” In popular culture, that refers to “big d*** energy.” The GOP nominee clarified that she meant “Big DeSantis Energy” while claiming that former President Donald Trump has it, too.

This isn’t related to the midterms, but jumping off of Lake’s BDE comment it should be noted that Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) reportedly claimed recently that, “Everyone comes up to me and says, ‘I would vote for you, if you had a penis,’” after the 2020 Iowa caucus.

And that’s entirely too much talk about male reproductive parts for anybody, let alone those seeking public
