Michael Cohen criticizes DOJ for lack of transparency

Michael Cohen’s Concerns: Lack of⁤ Transparency in Trump’s Hush Money Case

Attorney Michael Cohen recently voiced his deep concerns ⁤about the alarming lack of ‌transparency⁤ surrounding former President Donald Trump’s hush money case in New York.

“I’d like to know what’s going on. ⁤I’d like to know what’s going on with the SDNY,⁢ which is ⁢problematic. I’d like to know what’s going on at the DOJ.”

The attorney delved into ⁤his frustrations during pretrial hearings at the U.S. District Court for ⁤the Southern District of New⁤ York. He‍ later took to The⁣ Weekend show to share his thoughts and express skepticism towards the ‍Department of Justice’s handling⁤ of the case.

Challenging the Lack of Information: Cohen’s Quest ⁣for Transparency

Cohen‌ disclosed that he ‍had initiated a ⁢Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to obtain crucial documents related to the case, shedding light on the alleged ‍hush money payments Trump made to several women in 2018. However, the response to his FOIA request⁣ remained silent for three years, only to be followed by a sudden surge of documents when Trump’s current legal team made a similar request.

“Those documents belong to the ⁣people, and they should have been released under FOIA because I’ll tell you what those documents are going to show,” Cohen ⁤emphasized. He further added, “It’s ‌going to show that Donald Trump, through a willing and‌ complicit bloviated Attorney General,⁣ went ahead, weaponized the United States ⁢Department of‍ Justice and unconstitutionally remanded a United States⁢ citizen.”

Trump’s lawyers initially sought a 90-day extension to ⁣sift through the massive influx of documents provided by federal prosecutors, but ultimately agreed to a 30-day postponement⁢ with ⁢Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Legal Battles Unfold: Delays and Witness Lists

The anticipated jury selection, originally set for Monday, will see a rescheduled date following an upcoming hearing. Among the prominent figures on Bragg’s list of witnesses, Michael Cohen stands alongside adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who confirmed receiving hush money from the former president.
