Media targets Tesla in attempt to harm Elon Musk
Mainstream News Organizations Launch Attacks on Tesla
Mainstream news organizations have recently launched a series of attacks against Tesla, seemingly with the intention of damaging the reputation of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who also heads several other major companies.
The primary focus of these attacks revolves around what is being called a “recall” issued by Tesla for nearly every vehicle it has sold in the U.S. since 2012, totaling over two million vehicles. This action comes as a response to investigations by U.S. regulators into Tesla’s Autopilot system and its potential involvement in accidents that have occurred across the country in recent years.
A report from The New York Times exemplifies the way in which the media has covered this story, as the newspaper claims that Tesla’s “reputation for making technologically advanced cars suffered a blow” due to the recall.
It wasn’t until later in the Times’ report that readers were informed that this ”recall” was not a traditional recall, where customers have to physically bring their vehicles to a Tesla facility for servicing. Instead, Tesla, the world’s leading electric car manufacturer, is automatically sending wireless updates to all its cars through cellular networks. These updates include new warnings and checks to ensure drivers are attentive on the road, with the aim of satisfying regulators.
Tesla argues that data shows its Autopilot system, despite its involvement in some accidents, actually makes its vehicles safer. The company believes it is “morally indefensible not to make these systems available to a wider set of consumers, given the incontrovertible data that shows it is saving lives and preventing injury.”
“In the 4th quarter of 2022, we recorded one crash for every 4.85 million miles driven in which drivers were using Autopilot technology,” Tesla stated. “For drivers who were not using Autopilot technology, we recorded one crash for every 1.40 million miles driven. By comparison, the most recent data available from NHTSA and FHWA (from 2021) shows that in the United States there was an automobile crash approximately every 652,000 miles.”
These attacks against Musk and his companies have intensified since his buyout offer for Twitter, now known as X, was accepted in April 2022. This is largely due to the fact that many narratives that shape the news and policy originate on the platform. With Musk now in control of the platform, the targeting of predominantly conservative accounts has ceased.

Another example of the media distorting facts to attack Tesla can be found in an NBC News report published on Wednesday.
The report claims that Tesla’s new cybertruck will be “deadlier” than other vehicles due to its “6,800-pound electric behemoth with sports-car acceleration that experts say will be lethal to pedestrians and occupants of lighter vehicles.”
The far-left news organization cites “experts” to support this narrative, but crucial information is omitted from the report, such as the fact that the Cybertruck is actually one of the lightest electric trucks to be produced.
Car and Driver lists the current top electric trucks, all of which have fast acceleration, being delivered to customers as follows: Rivian R1T, 7,173 pounds; Ford F-150 Lightning, 6,855 pounds; Chevrolet Silverado EV, 8,500 pounds; and GMC Hummer EV Pickup, 9,640 pounds.
None of this information was included in NBC News’ report.
1) How does PAA data support the claim that there is an automobile crash every 436,000 miles on average?
1) shows that, on average, there is an automobile crash every 436,000 miles.”
Despite these statistics, mainstream news organizations continue to paint Tesla in a negative light. They use headlines such as “Tesla Recalls Millions of Vehicles Due to Safety Concerns” to create sensationalism and grab the attention of readers. However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that this “recall” is not a traditional one and is instead an innovative approach to improving driver safety.
It is important to note that no other automobile manufacturer has taken such a proactive and technologically advanced approach to addressing safety concerns. Tesla has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation in the automotive industry, and this wireless update is just another example of their commitment to improving safety on the roads.
Furthermore, the attacks on Elon Musk, in particular, seem to be driven by a desire to undermine his influence and success. Musk has made significant contributions to various industries, including electric vehicles, space exploration, and renewable energy. His visionary leadership has propelled Tesla to become one of the most valuable companies in the world.
One must question the motives of these mainstream news organizations and consider whether their attacks on Tesla and Musk are motivated by genuine concern for public safety or if they are simply aiming to tarnish the reputation of a successful entrepreneur. It is not uncommon for influential figures or companies to face backlash and criticism as they challenge traditional norms and disrupt established industries.
Tesla’s success has undoubtedly disrupted the automotive industry, and this has created a certain level of discomfort among competitors and traditional media outlets. Instead of acknowledging Tesla’s contributions to advancing sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions, some choose to focus on isolated incidents and portray them as systemic failures.
It is crucial for consumers to look beyond sensational headlines and seek a balanced understanding of the situation. Tesla’s commitment to safety and its track record of constantly improving its vehicles through software updates should not be overlooked or dismissed. The innovative approach taken by Tesla should be applauded, rather than criticized.
As Tesla continues to revolutionize the automotive industry and lead the transition towards a sustainable future, it is likely that mainstream news organizations will continue their attacks. However, it is up to the public to critically analyze the information presented and form their own opinions based on facts and data.
Ultimately, it is clear that Tesla remains committed to its mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, and the company’s proactive measures to improve safety should be recognized and celebrated. Instead of succumbing to sensationalism and negative narratives, let us focus on the incredible strides Tesla is making towards a greener and safer future for all.
