McCormick promises to ‘stand with’ Fetterman ‘when it makes sense’
Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) expressed his willingness too support Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) when it benefits Pennsylvania, despite Fetterman’s recent criticism over his attendance record, which includes missing 30 votes in the current year. McCormick offered his backing to fetterman during a discussion about an upcoming event touted as a debate, acknowledging the pressure Fetterman feels from his party. In response to concerns over his vote absenteeism-stemming from a stroke and ongoing depression-Fetterman defended his record, claiming he has participated in 90% of critical votes, typically missing less notable ones that occur on Mondays when he prefers to spend time with his family.
McCormick recognized that not all votes carry the same weight, stating that there are administrative votes and more significant ones, and he noted Fetterman’s consistent presence for crucial issues. Both senators have occasionally crossed party lines, with Fetterman having supported several of Trump’s Cabinet nominees in the past.McCormick himself has missed nine votes as taking office earlier this year.
Dave McCormick promises to ‘stand with’ Fetterman ‘when it makes sense’
Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) pledged allegiance to Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) as long as it “makes sense for Pennsylvania.”
Fetterman is under fire for missing 30 floor votes this year after he had the third-worst attendance in 2024. His absence sparked speculation regarding his health, as he suffered a stroke in 2022 and suffers from depression. However, McCormick called Fetterman ahead of an event advertised as a debate to offer his support.
“I said, ‘Listen, I’m going to say good things about you, is that gonna hurt you or help you? I’ll hold back if it’s gonna hurt you.’ He said, ‘Go ahead, nobody else in my party is defending me. Please, please do it.’ So I’m gonna stand with him when it makes sense for Pennsylvania,” McCormick said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Tuesday.
According to Fetterman, he’s voted in 90% of Senatorial proceedings this year and only missed “throwaway procedural votes that were never determinative or were important.” The senator pointed out that the votes he missed tended to be on a Monday, which he considers a “travel day” for himself to maximize time with his three children. McCormick agreed that not every vote is equally important.
“What becomes clear is that there are order votes — these are sort of administrative votes — and there are significant votes,” McCormick said. “Senator Fetterman made the point yesterday, he’s been there for the most important votes, and, listen, he’s someone who has shown a willingness to step up and defend what he believes in. Whether fighting antisemitism or whether it’s fighting for a secure border or standing with me and supporting the Nippon deal, the partnership with US Steel.”
FETTERMAN DEFENDS MISSING ‘THROWAWAY’ SENATE VOTES: ‘IT’S JUST PART OF A SMEAR’
McCormick himself has missed nine votes since his inauguration in January, representing a little more than 3% of the total votes so far this year.
There were times Fetterman strayed from his party, including when he nominated Pam Bondi to her post as Attorney General as the lone Democratic vote. In all, he supported nine of Trump’s Cabinet picks.
