McConnell falls while being questioned by Sunrise Movement protester
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), aged 83, fell while being questioned by activists from the Sunrise Movement in the basement of the Russell Senate Office Building. When approached and asked about his support for ICE’s actions, McConnell initially declined a handshake as he was stabilizing himself with an aide’s help.he attempted too walk independently but stumbled and fell, breaking his fall with his hand. After the fall,he was assisted by an aide and a police officer and then left the area. McConnell has experienced multiple falls in recent years, raising concerns about his health and leading to increased pressure for him to step down as Senate Republican leader, which he agreed to do in february 2024. His previous fall in December 2024 resulted in a sprained wrist and facial cuts.
McConnell falls while being questioned by activists
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell on Thursday while being questioned by activists in the basement of the Russell Senate Office Building.
McConnell, 83, was approached by activists from the Sunrise Movement but declined a handshake as he was using one arm to stabilize himself with the help of an aide. He let go to try to walk on his own, but his gait was noticeably labored and off-balance. Seconds later, he stumbled and fell, breaking his fall with his hand.
Before he fell, he was being questioned by a member of the Sunrise Movement, who asked him, “Do you support ICE taking working people off the streets and kidnapping them?”
McConnell was helped up by the aide and a police officer.
“Heh, ‘scuse me,” he told one of the activists filming after being helped up, then walked away with the assistance of the officer and aide.
The Washington Examiner reached out to McConnell’s office for comment.

McConnell has fallen several times in recent years, many times requiring medical attention. His falls and freezing in public led to concerns about his health and increased pressure for the Senate leader to step down from his position. He agreed to step down in February 2024, giving up his position as Senate Republican leader during this Congress.
McConnell’s last fall was in December 2024, leading to a sprained wrist and cuts on his face.
