Markwayne Mullin slams Democrats for Trump negativity despite record-high approval rating
Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) criticized Democrats for focusing on negative portrayals of President donald Trump, specifically regarding the deployment of the National Guard in response to protests against Immigration adn Customs Enforcement (ICE). Mullin argues that democrats are emphasizing this issue instead of addressing the underlying problem of illegal immigration, which he believes feeds into their narrative that “everything Trump does must be bad.” He claims that public opinion supports TrumpS handling of the immigration crisis, with polling indicating a 54% approval rating.Mullin expressed confusion about Democrats’ refusal to applaud Trump during a recent address when he honored families affected by illegal immigration, attributing it to an irrational hatred of his administration. He believes this behavior contributed to the Democratic loss in recent elections, suggesting that voters are frustrated with the party’s “woke agenda.” Additionally,he highlighted moments from a recent defense budget hearing where Democratic senators had contentious exchanges with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, further illustrating the current political tensions.
Markwayne Mullin slams Democrats for Trump negativity despite record-high approval rating
Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) said Democrats are prioritizing portraying President Donald Trump in a negative light, citing the party’s focus on the administration’s deployment of the National Guard to deal with anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement riots.
Democrats have been critical of the National Guard’s deployment in Los Angeles after left-wing demonstrators took to the streets to oppose ICE raids to find illegal immigrants. Mullin said Democratic lawmakers are focusing on the deployment instead of the deportations to keep the focus on their “narrative” that “everything that Trump does has to be bad.”
Meanwhile, polls show voters approve of Trump’s handling of the immigration crisis, with a 54% approval rating.
When asked why Democratic lawmakers did not stand and applaud Trump’s acknowledgement of the families of Laken Riley and Jocelyn Nungaray, who were killed by illegal immigrants, during his address to Congress earlier this year, Mullin said it is impossible to understand “what’s actually going on” in the minds of those who oppose Trump.
“The hatred toward the Trump administration is so real that they can’t even applaud something that we should all be able to rally around, and that should be America and America first,” Mullin said on Fox News’s Hannity. “America is getting stronger, America, where the morale is actually high again. They can’t actually applaud any successes that President Trump has had.”
Mullin said the “irrational” behavior of Democratic lawmakers is why the party lost in November. He said voters were tired of “this woke agenda” and being “treated like children.” He pointed to how former President Joe Biden urged Congress to act to secure the border last year, even though 64,000 illegal immigrants were released into the United States in June 2024.
“We knew those numbers and we knew the facts were real, but they kept lying to the American people, so they can’t turn away from their lie, because why? Well, you admit you’re a liar at that point,” Mullin said.
AMNESTY VS. ‘AUTHORITARIANISM’: DEMOCRATS MAKE THEIR LEFTWARD MOVE ON IMMIGRATION
On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s testimony at a hearing went viral due to several exchanges between him and Democratic senators. The hearing was meant to focus on the defense budget in 2026, but was overshadowed by other matters such as the Los Angeles riots and the “No Kings” protests.
At one point, Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) asked Hegseth about the possibility of an order for the military to use force against unarmed protesters. Hegseth replied that there is “zero indication that an order was given to shoot protesters.” Another viral moment occurred when Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) demanded answers about the firing of top national security officials due to requests from social media influencers, to which Hegseth said the panel should not “believe everything you read in the media.”
