Man accused of assaulting CT lawmaker after Muslim prayer service.
Connecticut Lawmaker Attacked After Muslim Prayer Service
A shocking incident unfolded in Hartford, Connecticut, as State Representative Mayram Khan was leaving a Muslim prayer service. However, what could have been a tragic event took a turn when a brave fellow worshiper intervened.
On the morning of June 28, outside the bustling XL Center in downtown Hartford, Khan, accompanied by her sister and children, had just concluded the service attended by approximately 4,000 individuals. This gathering marked the joyous occasion of Eid al-Adha, the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
As they were about to leave, a man approached Khan and began making lewd comments. The situation quickly escalated as he physically assaulted her, throwing her to the ground. However, the swift actions of a fellow worshiper prevented further harm.
“The man made obscene remarks, grabbed Khan, hit her and threw her to the ground,”
– Farhan Memon, Chair of the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations
Thanks to the bravery and quick thinking of this individual, the attacker was apprehended and held until the authorities arrived.
