Mamdani outraises Cuomo and Adams combined in latest fundraising haul

The article reports that Zohran Mamdani, a socialist candidate, has significantly outraised former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and current Mayor Eric Adams in the latest fundraising period for the New York city mayoral race, which is less than three months away. From July 12 to August 18, Mamdani raised over $1 million, surpassing Cuomo’s approximately $575,000 (including transferred funds) and adams’s $420,000. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa raised about $407,000 during the same timeframe.

Mamdani now holds the largest campaign war chest, with $4.4 million on hand, compared to Cuomo’s $1.2 million. This represents a strong turnaround for Mamdani’s campaign compared to the previous reporting period, when Adams led in fundraising. Recent polls show Mamdani leading the race by a significant margin, holding about 38% support, far ahead of Cuomo, Sliwa, and adams.

Despite his fundraising and polling lead, Mamdani’s opponents, including cuomo, remain in the race, with Cuomo expressing confidence that Mamdani’s support will decline as voters learn more about his positions. Both mamdani and Cuomo have stated that if elected, they would work collaboratively with the White House.

Mamdani outraises Cuomo and Adams combined in latest fundraising haul

Socialist Zohran Mamdani significantly outraised both former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams in the latest fundraising file for the New York City mayoral election, which is less than three months away.

According to a Saturday filing from the New York City Campaign Finance Board, Mamdani raised $1,051,200 from July 12 to Aug. 18, with an average donation of $121. During the same five-week period, Cuomo, who is running as an independent after losing the Democratic primary to Mamdani, raised $507,660, while also transferring over an additional $68,225 from a separate state campaign account. Adams’s total for the period came in below both of them at $420,886, but with an average donation of $723. Curtis Sliwa, who is the Republican candidate, raised $407,332.

The new fundraising numbers come as a boon to Mamdani, who has the most cash on hand in the race. After the latest figures, the socialist candidate has a $4.4 million war chest, while Cuomo, Mamdani’s closest challenger, has nearly $1.2 million on hand.

They also mark a turnaround for his campaign from the previous filing period, which was from mid-June to mid-July. During that period, Mamdani raised $853,018, which Adams nearly doubled at $1,556,155. Cuomo reported under $100,000 for that time, while Sliwa received $169,244.

Recent polling has indicated Mamdani is dominating the competition.

According to a polling average from RealClearPolitics, Mamdani is 15 percentage points ahead of Cuomo, 38.2% to 23.2%, and holds commanding leads over both Sliwa and Adams, who are polling at 16.6% and 10.6%, respectively.

MAMDANI AND CUOMO CAMPAIGNS SAY CANDIDATES WOULD COLLABORATE WITH WHITE HOUSE IF ELECTED

Despite the large gap, all have vowed to stay in the race, with Cuomo saying on Friday that Mamdani’s “appeal is going to drop dramatically.”

“A lot is going to happen between now and then. I don’t think the public even knows who the assemblyman is, what he represents, what his positions are. So I think the more they find out about him, the less they’re going to like him,” he said.
