Late night talk show host Bill Maher praised Sen. Elissa Slotkin‘s (D-MI) recent criticism of the Democratic Party and its “weak and woke” positions.
Slotkin’s advice to the Democratic Party lately was that it stop using the word “oligarchy” and embrace the American flag again. Maher agreed on his Saturday episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, suggesting that the party reclaim the flag after “someone’s been humping it,” in reference to President Donald Trump who is known for hugging flag poles.
“Elissa Slotkin’s right: liberals are weak and woke — especially the white ones — and they indulge all sorts of nonsense from their kids, a pattern that then continues on in the Democratic Party. Last election it was all the gender stuff, the insistence that men can have babies and such. And now I fear that ‘we like the terrorists’ is the new that,” Maher said. “Liberals need to push back on the dumb ideas that come from their children. The Democrats’ problem is the energy of the party’s with the young, and the young are with the terrorists. That’s not good.”
After President Donald Trump’s first speech to Congress in March, Slotkin delivered the Democratic response. The senator claimed she is working to improve the party and even implement some Republican strategies “from within.”

“Part of my strategy for the Democratic Party in this moment is about loudly reclaiming our patriotism,” Slotkin explained on X. “We’re fighting back *because* we love our country. And we need to take the flag back from the people who are spitting on our democracy.”
Maher’s segment on Slotkin comes weeks after MSNBC anchor Jen Psaki penned an opinion editorial proclaiming the senator was the “rising star” of the Democratic Party.
