MAGA takes victory lap after Dan Crenshaw loses primary in Texas

MAGA celebrates after Crenshaw’s Texas primary defeat to Steve Toth.

– rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) was defeated in the Texas 2nd Congressional District republican primary by state Rep. Steve toth, in an upset that ended Crenshaw’s hold on the seat without Donald Trump’s endorsement.

– With about 95% of votes counted, toth won 55.8% to Crenshaw’s 40.7%, adn Toth advances to the general election outright under Texas law.

Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz credited MAGA’s rise to dominance and claimed the establishment RINOs were being sidelined; Crenshaw’s relationship with Trump had cooled since Crenshaw supported the 2020 election results and condemned the Jan. 6 riot.

– Toth argued Crenshaw was not conservative enough, and the opposition was bolstered by the Freedom Caucus Fund’s endorsement of Toth.

– The race was also influenced by Texas redistricting: a Trump-backed redistricting effort moved districts in a way that put more of Toth’s constituents into the newly drawn 2nd District, helping the challenger.

MAGA takes victory lap after Dan Crenshaw loses primary to conservative challenger

The MAGA movement took a victory lap Wednesday after Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) was defeated for reelection in the Republican primary for Texas’ 2nd Congressional District.

Crenshaw, the sole incumbent House Republican from Texas not to receive Trump’s endorsement, was defeated in an upset by state Rep. Steve Toth.

“Dan Crenshaw failed to see where the Republican Party was going,” Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz wrote on X. “Post-2020, he foolishly allied with Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, and the rest of the RINO establishment in a desperate bid to crush the MAGA movement. But MAGA rose up and obliterated them all. MAGA is dominant and unstoppable, while the RINOs are headed for total extinction. I wish Dan all the best in his future pursuits. Rumor has it he will be venturing into stock trading or spinning tracks as a DJ!”

With 95% of votes counted, Toth had won with 55.8% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. Crenshaw, meanwhile, only garnered 40.7%. Toth won outright, as state law stipulates that any candidate who receives more than 50% of the primary vote advances to the general election without a runoff.

“Dan Crenshaw just lost his house seat,” conservative activist Robby Starbuck wrote on X. “All the [money] and incumbent advantages couldn’t save him from primary voters who’ve had enough of all talk politicians. Republican voters want action and they’re tired of the establishment. This is the 1st of many. Only action can save them!”

Crenshaw’s relationship with Trump has been on a downward decline since the congressman voted to uphold the 2020 election results and was outspoken in condemning the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Toth argued that Crenshaw was not conservative enough in his push to unseat the four-term incumbent.

JAMES TALARICO CALLS FOR EVERY VOTE TO BE COUNTED AFTER TEXAS VOTING HOURS DISPUTE

“The Freedom Caucus Fund is proud to have supported @SteveTothTX in his successful race to retire RINO anti-Trump Congressman Dan Crenshaw,” the Freedom Caucus Fund wrote in an endorsement of Toth on X.

The Trump-backed mid-decade redistricting effort in Texas also did not benefit Crenshaw. Under the new map, Toth’s state legislative district fell within the newly drawn 2nd Congressional District, meaning more voters who were already his constituents had the chance to elect the challenger to higher office.
