Maduro unveils talks with opposition amid primary elections

Venezuela has selected its candidates for the upcoming elections this coming November. Venezuela’s Socialist Party held primary elections on Sunday amid an ongoing economic crisis and a political stalemate in the country.
Embattled President Nicolas Maduro said following the vote, his officials would hold talks with leaders of opposition to see if they could form a more inclusive government this year.
Venezuela’s opposition leader Juan Guaidó has hoped to advance the talks, which would be mediated by Mexico and Norway. Maduro also commented on the current state of U.S. relations.
“We don’t have any communication with the White House. In Trump’s time we had a lot of communication with the White House, with Elliott Abrams, with the State Department,” he stated. “Today, we don’t have any communication with the U.S. government.”

Maduro went on to say talks with supporters of Guaidó have seven points on the agenda, which are aimed at resolving Venezuela’s lengthy political crisis.
