‘Lock ‘em up,’ Democrats say of those doubting Biden’s election

The party that oversaw the jailing of Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol protesters now wants anyone who questioned former President Joe Biden’s defeat of President Donald Trump to be punished.

In a revealing survey that displayed how divided the nation remains over the election that faced several legal challenges but no reversal, Rasmussen Reports found that 48% of Democrats “support punishment for questioning the 2020 election.”

In the poll shared with Washington Secrets, just a third of Democrats don’t want doubters punished, and 58% of Republicans agree.

Rasmussen Reports asked likely voters about how to handle those who challenged the election after the Washington, D.C., Bar recommended that attorney Jeffrey Clark — a former Justice Department official and currently acting administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs — be disbarred for his role in questioning the Georgia election results. According to reports, he authored a critical letter that was never sent.

Following the election, Trump challenged the results, and GOP lawyers fanned out across the country to review the results. In Washington, thousands protested the congressional certification of Biden’s victory, some violently, during the Jan. 6 protests. Nearly 2,000 were later charged, and many convicted by Biden’s Justice Department.

The survey also found that many still question the results, a trend that has never broken since Trump was sent packing and Biden took over. Rasmussen said 42% still believe that there was cheating in the 2020 election, while 49% said it was unlikely.

Those results hide the lingering partisan divide on the issue, said the polling outfit. “A solid majority (71%) of Republicans believe it’s likely that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, a belief shared by 21% of Democrats and 35% of unaffiliated voters,” said Rasmussen.
