Linda McMahon celebrates ‘triumphs’ over universities

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon praised the Trump governance’s recent settlements with three universities regarding compliance and funding issues.Brown University agreed to pay $50 million to the state of Rhode Island after facing pressure related to anti-Israel protests on campus and committed to following an executive order prohibiting transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. This settlement follows previous agreements with Columbia University, which paid $220 million over antisemitism concerns, and the University of Pennsylvania, which erased records of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas and banned transgender athletes. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon celebrated the settlement between a third university and the Trump administration.

Brown University announced Thursday it would pay the state of Rhode Island $50 million in what McMahon characterized as a “fine,” rather than lose $110 million for anti-Israel protests on its campus last year. The university also agreed to comply with President Donald Trump’s executive order keeping transgender athletes out of women’s sports.

“We’ve had three great triumphs,” McMahon said Thursday on NewsMax’s Wake Up America.

The Trump administration’s previous two settlements are with Columbia University, which agreed to pay $220 million for antisemitism on its campus, and the University of Pennsylvania, which agreed to erase the records of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas and ban transgender athletes.

“So these are really big accomplishments for three universities where, as I say, I hope Harvard is going to stay at the table for negotiations, then we have several other investigations going on as well, but these are big wins,” McMahon said.

Since Trump took office, Harvard University has had $3 billion in grants frozen or canceled. The university typically boasts as much as $9 billion in federal funding. As a result, Harvard made two bond offerings this year alone, bringing its total offering to $1.2 billion.
