LA DA defends ‘incredible job’ of law enforcement amid anti-ICE riots

in response to ongoing protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles, District Attorney Nathan Hochman praised local law enforcement for their efforts in managing the civil unrest.Hochman noted that the situation has improved over time despite initial challenges. The protests escalated to violence, with demonstrators throwing objects at police and setting vehicles ablaze, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to issue dispersal orders.

Hochman emphasized that the majority of protesters are peaceful citizens demonstrating against recent ICE raids, during which about 45 individuals were detained. He acknowledged that only a small fraction of protesters engaged in violent actions, and expressed support for law enforcement’s accountability measures.

To assist with the situation, President trump authorized the deployment of 4,000 national Guard soldiers to the area, countering claims from some Democrats that the protests were entirely peaceful. Reports from the LA County Sheriff indicated that protesters’ behavior became increasingly aggressive towards police officers during the events.

LA DA defends ‘incredible job’ of law enforcement amid anti-ICE riots

LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman congratulated local law enforcement for “getting a little bit better each day” at managing the riots protesting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The LA Police Department has issued dispersal orders across Los Angeles and Paramount as protesters have set fires to cars, including Waymo taxis, thrown frozen water bottles and cinderblocks at police cars, among other acts of destruction.

“The LAPD has over 8,000 officers; the sheriff has over 10,000 officers. They are dealing with this civil unrest, and quite candidly, if the mayor, the governor, and the president are having a political squabble above them, that’s not what they are dealing with on the ground,” Hochman said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Tuesday. “They’re doing an incredible job on the ground. Again, it started out difficult. Each day, it seems to be getting better. The DA’s office is backing them and being their full partner in holding criminals accountable.”

Hochman emphasized that those committing the violence represent a “small percentage” of the “legitimate protesters” who gathered following ICE raids in the area. ICE detained some 45 immigrants near the local Home Depot.

TOM COTTON CORRECTS RECORD THAT LA PROTESTS WERE ‘PEACEFUL’

President Donald Trump has deployed a total of 4,000 National Guard soldiers since Sunday to assist with settling the riots. The move came despite Democratic lawmakers’ claims that the protests were peaceful, only motivating Trump to send a group of 700 Marines to the area.

The LA County Sheriff seemingly disputed Barragan’s claim that the protesters were peaceful, writing in a statement that they became “increasingly agitated” and demonstrated “violent behavior” toward police officers.
