Key Witness in Mar-a-Lago Case Retracts “False Testimony” Implicating Trump
A key witness in the classified documents case involving former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago has retracted their previous “false testimony” after changing lawyers, according to special counsel Jack Smith’s team. The witness, referred to as “Employee 4” in court records, has now provided new evidence to prosecutors that implicates Trump, his aide Walt Nauta, and Mar-a-Lago staffer Carlos De Oliveira.
“Immediately after receiving new counsel, Trump Employee 4 retracted his prior false testimony and provided information that implicated Nauta, De Oliveira and Trump in efforts to delete security camera footage, as set forth in the superseding indictment,”
Smith disclosed these details in a court filing to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case and was appointed by Trump. The charges against Trump, Nauta, and De Oliveira include obstruction of investigators and the attempted recovery of government documents. All three have pleaded not guilty.
