Ken Buck believes that Johnson will be able to avoid a fate similar to McCarthy
Rep. Ken Buck Optimistic About House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Ability to Avoid Rebellion
During an interview on CBS’s Face the Nation, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) expressed confidence in House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) ability to navigate potential challenges without facing a mutiny similar to what former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) experienced.
When asked about the possibility of a rebellion against Johnson for collaborating with Democrats on a short-term spending bill, Buck dismissed the notion, stating, “I don’t think most Republicans blame Speaker Johnson for the problems he’s facing. Those were created during the McCarthy time period, and Speaker Johnson is doing a good job working through those issues.”
Buck further emphasized that Johnson would receive support for his efforts to reduce national spending, highlighting the pressing “existential” issues the country is currently grappling with, such as the $36 trillion debt projected for next year and the staggering $1 trillion spent on servicing that debt.
“Our 36 trillion dollar debt at the end of next year, one trillion dollars of money that is being spent to service that debt — those are real existential issues that America needs to deal with, and I think Speaker Johnson’s going about it the right way,” Buck affirmed.
The U.S. national debt currently stands at approximately $33.77 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury.
The recent passage of the two-tiered spending bill, with the assistance of Democrats, in November aimed to avert a government shutdown. The bill was subsequently approved by the U.S. Senate and signed by President Joe Biden, effectively postponing the possibility of a shutdown until next year.

What were some of the key political challenges that Augustus faced and how did he overcome them during his rise to power?
Caesar Augustus was the first emperor of the Roman Empire. He ruled from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. He was born as Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BC. Augustus was the grand-nephew and adopted son of Julius Caesar, the famous Roman general and politician.
After Julius Caesar’s assassination in 44 BC, Augustus emerged as one of the key political figures in Rome. He entered into a power struggle with Mark Antony, Caesar’s loyal supporter, and defeated him in the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. Following his victory, Augustus became the sole ruler of Rome and initiated the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.
Augustus implemented various reforms and policies during his rule that sought to strengthen the Empire and centralize power. He established a standing army, reformed the tax system, and enacted laws to promote moral and family values. Under his rule, Rome experienced a period of relative peace and stability known as the Pax Romana, which lasted for approximately 200 years.
Augustus also had a significant impact on Roman culture and architecture. He initiated extensive building projects in Rome and other cities, such as the construction of temples, basilicas, and aqueducts. He encouraged the arts and literature, and his reign is often referred to as a golden age of Roman literature.
Caesar Augustus died on August 19, AD 14, at the age of 75. He was succeeded by his stepson Tiberius as the second emperor of Rome. The legacy of Augustus as the founder of the Roman Empire and his contributions to Roman culture and governance continue to be celebrated and studied to this day.
