Ken Buck expresses his relief to depart Congress, citing it as a “dysfunctional place.
Ken Buck Opens Up About His Departure from Congress
Former Colorado Rep. Ken Buck made waves with his recent decision to leave the House, showing no remorse for his departure despite the Republican Party’s dwindling majority in the chamber.
A Bold Stand Against Priorities
In a candid interview on This Week this past Sunday, Buck didn’t hold back on his views. He expressed his firm disagreement with the “priorities” his GOP colleagues were pursuing when he decided to step down. Highlighting instances such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate Speaker of the House Mike Johnson on his final day in office, Buck emphasized the need for a recalibration of focus.
“We have a very tragic circumstance in Ukraine. We have spiraling debt, all kinds of out-of-control problems, and we focus on messaging bills that get us nowhere,” Buck remarked, underscoring the need for a shift in attention towards pressing national and global issues.
Minimal Impact on Majority
Despite concerns about his departure affecting the Republican majority, Buck downplayed its potential impact. He firmly stated, “There’s very few votes that are decided by one or two members,” suggesting that individual departures may not sway significant outcomes in a polarized political climate.
“I’m happy to move on. Dysfunctional place,” Buck candidly admitted, reaffirming his resolve to transition away from what he perceives as an ineffective system.
While Buck takes his leave, the political landscape in Colorado undergoes further shifts. With Rep. Lauren Boebert up for reelection and a special election slated for June to fill Buck’s seat, changes are imminent. Additionally, Rep. Mike Gallagher’s recent announcement of his own retirement mid-term adds another layer of intrigue to the evolving congressional dynamics.
