Kathie Lee Gifford Praises America And Talks About Being A New Grandmother
The television personality Kathie Lee Gifford, who is also a devout Christian, became a grandmother for the first time earlier this year. In a new interview, Gifford praised America as she opened up about what being a grandmother is really like for her.

‘We Are The Most Blessed People’
“We are the most blessed people on the planet to live in this country,” Kathie Lee, 69, told Entertainment Tonight. “We have our problems, but look how far we have come. And it upsets me because I chose citizenship in this country. I was born in Europe, but Frank — he would be grateful that his son is doing so well and has a beautiful wife, and they have a beautiful son.”
Kathie Lee was referring to her late husband, the former NFL star Frank Gifford, who died back in 2015 at the age of 84. Their son Cody named his newborn son Frank in his father’s honor, something that Kathie Lee isn’t sure her late husband would like.

“‘Why did you give him my name? Why did you do that?’ I could just hear him,” Kathie Lee said. “Well, you know what, Frank was — the man is in eight halls of fame. And, like, many that you can sort of lie your way into, every one that Frank was in, he earned. He did everything the old-fashioned way, he just earned it. And Frank had every reason in the world to be an arrogant man.”
“He never was, and it was my favorite thing about him,” she continued. “He was the most modest individual I have ever known. He was, and ’cause you know why? He was grateful. He’d grown up poverty-stricken in the dust bowls of Oklahoma and California and Texas. His father was an oil worker. And they ate dog food and were grateful for it at times, so that’s what I don’t see when I look around the world today in young people, and there are some, but this attitude of entitlement — it just makes me sick.”
Kathie Lee also said that she has decided not to go by the word “grandma.”
“I don’t like the word grandma,” Kathie Lee admitted. “Bubby. No, bub, because of bubbalah. It’s a Yiddish word meaning my delight, my adored one. Bubbalah. My bubbalah. Bubbalah. Bubbalah. Yiddish.”
“Just a fun little Jewish language,” she added. “But so, the grandma name for that is Bubby. Buh.”
Kathie Lee’s Christian Faith
Kathie Lee is preparing for the release of her new biblical movie The Way on September 1, and she intends to spend the rest of her life telling Christian stories.
“I came to know Jesus in a movie theater as a 12-year-old little Jewish girl,” she recently said, according to CBN News. “And Jesus spoke to my heart through a movie that the Billy Graham organization put out, and I’ve never been the same since.”
Kathie Lee went on to call on her fellow Christians to reach others with the gospel.
“The devil doesn’t own the airwaves. … the Lord does,” she said. “Everything belongs to God, and we need to reclaim them for His Kingdom.”
