Kamala Harris ally Katy Perry dines with Justin Trudeau in Montreal, stirring speculation

Pop superstar Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were spotted having dinner together at a Montreal fine-dining restaurant Monday night, prompting speculation about a potential connection between the politically engaged public figures.

The dinner, confirmed by staff at Le Violon restaurant and first reported by TMZ, lasted around two hours. Though no public displays of affection were observed, their animated conversation and shared political history have ignited online chatter.

Perry, who recently split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, has long been a vocal supporter of former Vice President Kamala Harris. She performed during Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign at a star-studded Philadelphia rally alongside Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, and Jon Bon Jovi. She has called Harris a “protector of the future” and posted photos with Harris and former second gentleman Doug Emhoff, alongside then-partner Bloom, during the campaign’s final stretch.

Perry’s 2024 election activism unexpectedly crossed paths with her ex-husband, comedian and podcast host Russell Brand, who has emerged as a supporter of President Donald Trump. The pair were married for just over a year, from October 2010 to December 2011. In a June 2024 episode of his podcast Stay Free with Russell Brand, he told RNC spokeswoman Elizabeth Pipko he couldn’t understand how any “freedom-loving American” would choose President Joe Biden over Trump.

Trudeau, meanwhile, stepped down after nearly a decade as Canada’s prime minister, following a sharp decline in public support and internal party pressure. He was replaced in March by Mark Carney, who has sought to distance himself from Trudeau-era policies amid rising tensions with the U.S. under returning President Donald Trump.

The timing of Trudeau’s dinner with Perry adds intrigue, as both figures remain active in international cultural and political circles.

Trudeau and Trump have had a publicly contentious relationship, including Trump’s infamous suggestion during a December 2024 Mar-a-Lago meeting that Canada become the “51st state” if it couldn’t survive without U.S. trade deals.

Trudeau was caught on a hot mic weeks later calling Trump’s annexation talk “a real thing,” citing American interest in Canada’s critical minerals.

Perry, for her part, made headlines in April after joining an all-female crew on Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin spaceflight. She described the mission as “a journey of unity,” emphasizing the symbolic value of women leading in space exploration. However, the flight became a flashpoint in culture wars when Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy publicly disputed their right to be called “astronauts.”

Responding to a Blue Origin X post that referred to the participants as the “astronaut crew,” Duffy wrote: “You cannot identify as an astronaut. They do not meet the FAA astronaut criteria.”

He referenced the FAA’s guidelines under the Commercial Space Astronaut Wings Program. He called the mission “inspiring,” but emphasized that “brave and glam” passengers do not make “astronauts.”

The trip reportedly caused tension with Bloom, who allegedly called the mission “cringeworthy.” Their relationship ended soon after, with Bloom attending Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s Italy wedding alone. Perry, despite her close friendship with Sánchez, was notably absent.

Still, any rumors of a falling-out with Sánchez appear to be unfounded.

In July, just weeks after the Bezos wedding, Sánchez and Perry were spotted together in Paris during Couture Week. They were later photographed enjoying lunch together at upscale Parisian bistro L’Avenue, joined briefly by Kim Kardashian.

Now back on tour with stops across Canada, Perry’s Montreal dinner with Trudeau comes when both publicly navigate personal transitions. Trudeau’s separation from ex-wife Sophie Grégoire was announced in 2023, and Perry’s split from Bloom has remained a subject of tabloid intrigue.

While there’s no confirmed romance between the two, their meeting has brought together overlapping threads of celebrity, diplomacy, and political power.
